It's a special marking that was intended to confuse the intercepted BEAR crews that the 'toom was in fact carrying a special ronny raygun death weapon.

Before they joined the RAF and Harriers joined the Navy. 5 x FG1's, along with 6 x Buccaneers and a Wessex recce'd on Ark Royal's deck by 1(F) in 1972.
Mais Non! ! Gloria Finis were in service, in 1969, Hank Martin CO, (the Best) with the said naval F-4K, I did my nav inst conversion course with the RN, tot inclusive of course, at Yeovilton in the same year.
