UK military to beef up Olympic security

Well what a surprise.................................

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/de...?newsfeed=true

Ministers have insisted that using such a large military deployment will not impact on operations elsewhere and organisers say it is prudent to use a mix of suppliers to provide security. They have likened the role of the military to that at Wimbledon, where they wear ceremonial dress and add to the sense of occasion.
This really should read.

Ministers have insisted that using such a large military deployment will not impact on operations elsewhere, but will fcuk over those hoping to have leave and organisers say it is prudent to use a mix of suppliers to provide security especially when we can use easy targets such as the military who will do as they are told. They have likened the role of the military to that at Wimbledon, where they wear ceremonial dress and add to the sense of occasion but at the Olympics they will be required to wear CS95 and carry weapons as a deterrent to the terrorists who want to disrupt the games. Oh and when you have finished guarding the games you are fired as we don't want you any more. Were a bit short of money don't you know, but don't worry the bill for the Games just keeps on going up. Austerity who needs it.

Well, KF, if you can't afford to pay to have something done, use the military and charge the bill to the MoD. Then it's free. And they save a fortune on the resettlement, because we can't do resettlement while we're gurding the Russian Gymnastic Team in London. Everyone's a winner.

Nice translation by the way.

You Cynical B*****d's

You are correct in your translations,

I'd do security for the Jockstrappers - I'll need an extra fat boy size combats, some nice boots and a big gun

However, following earlier disposals of central London barracks, the troops will spend three hours each way being bussed in from tented encampments in East Anglia and the Midlands. Their twelve hours on duty will not include the six hours travel needed, so they will return to their base just after they need to get up and queue for the shower in order to be ready for a parade two hours before the buses leave for their next duty.

Contracts have already been placed for the packed lunches needed, and to save costs the sandwiches will be made in March and put into a cold-store until needed in August.

I love it! We should form a think tank, specializing in translating government and military press releases into English.

In terms of the ceremonial side of participation, I believe they are currently trawling for volunteers.

Of course, when they don't get enough "volunteers"....

One of the prime reasons is that Service personnel don't get overtime pay ..... but the plods do. Consequently, it is much cheaper to 'draft' in Service folk and piss them about. Shortly after the Olympics I'm sure one of two things will happen - some of those Service personnel will be off to a far-flung lands to scratch for scorpions in the sand, and the rest will be made redundant.

As for the sudden doubling of the Olympic security budget? Well, most of that will be given to the consultants who suggested using the military to boost security personnel numbers, of course.

On the Radio News this afternoon... "we'll have fighter jets and surface to air missiles".

Hang on, what SAMs? Or do we bring in Patriot because only the US Army could ever invent the ROE to do anything. So we'll have our Typhoons and US Patriot. Make sure the Mode 4 works!

I hope we will receive full training and a full hazard and risk assessment is carried out to ensure we are fully prepare for the task. If not who is responsible?

Where do we fit into plan?

Will we be wearing riot kit, bearing arms etc, if required, or are we to be employed as a cheap alternate to G4 checking tickets and wiping the ar**ses of the great unwashed or something in between. What ever the answer is I suspect
the G4 (or who ever is contracted to do the security) and civvy police will be on overtime and be living in better accommodation than us. The MoD will be charging for our services so where is the welfare package for us.

I suspect post tranche 2 and new pension announcement, being used as a last minute fix for a problem caused by yet another UK senior management cock up will be the last straw for many.

I hope we will receive full training
You will have to complete a waste of time package on the DLP, print off your certificate and hand it off to your adj.

Look up the last thread about this and you will see the Dark Blue and Brown correctly state that the British Armed Forces do in fact have Surface to Air Guided Weapons, without getting anything off the forces of another nation. Ok with the exception of the remaining Sea Darts, they have as much chance of stopping an airliner as that of a firework!!

This is not news. We've known for at least 2 years that the MOD will provide much of the security. In fact, anyone with half a ounce of intelligence would have expected that at exactly the same time as the IOC announced 'London' in 2005.

I would think that HMG were concentrating on the deployment of 21 and 23 SAS as back up to the Regular Army UnIts.
