You do know how to get rid of a thread, surely?

What you do is DON'T POST.

I believe the RNR harrier idea was conceived mostly to mess with Crabs for entertainment, though when they looked at the numbers to maintain a very limited capability (1 bomb 1 missile type) at reasonably long readiness state it nearly progressed into more than that due to the very surprisingly low cost.
That is interesting - and frustrating. Was the idea killed by politics or by the refusal of a process centred system to think outside the box?

WEBF

The answer is a simple one :-

Lack of Money requiring drastic retrenchment across the the entire Economy of the United Kingdom.

A thread started by WEBF in 2008

PPRuNe changes

I recently tried to access PPRuNe during the week from another pc (in town), and couldn't. I was prompted for password etc. Ergo, a visitor to the site would be unable to read any posts or pages. Is this a permanant change, or just temporary until things calm down?

Over the last week or so, certain threads have recieved hardly any extra views, this at least partly explains why. One of the things about PPRuNe is (was?) being able to write things in a place where it might be noticed by interested parties. I'm thinking mainly of the Military Aircrew forum - where things may be said that posters sort of want to be seen by journalists, researchers and the like, although these are very unlikely to arouse as much public media interest as Heathrow T5 etc.
His statement hear explains a lot:

Over the last week or so, certain threads have recieved hardly any extra views, this at least partly explains why.
Certain threads received hardly any views because he couldn't get on to PPRuNe!

And his statement hear explains even more:

I'm thinking mainly of the Military Aircrew forum - where things may be said that posters sort of want to be seen by journalists,
Lord preserve us! I thought this was a rumour network not a porthole for people to attract journos (that will no longer be interested in the topic either)!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - WEBF / Yokel is a classic aspergers person. I think we need to accept that unfortunately he suffers from an illness, and that his affection for the SHAR is nothing to do with genuine concerns, but is a symptom of this illness.

Perhaps the kindest thing to do would be to either continue to humour him, or suggest that maybe the site owners ensure his stay here is ended as a means of helping him recover slowly. He's held this fixation now for nearly 10 years, and I think he genuinely needs medical / psychological help.

I am not trying to be rude / wind up by saying this, I genuinely mean it.

On any other sort of semi reasonable forum he would be classed as a 'Troll' and would be having moderator induced holidays at increasing lengths until the penny dropped.

Either that or the pointless thread would be locked. It doesn't help he has a couple of 'naval assistants' who take him seriously

Always did hate bullies!!

Frankly unimpressed by some of the most recent posts towards WEBF....the words puerile, immature, and schoolboy bullying spring to mind!!

Whether I or anyone else agrees or disagrees with another's views, one would always do better to respect their entitlement to their opinion and, if moved to engage in debate, do so in a mature respectful manner rather than childish ranting, name-calling, or questioning the other's state of mind!!

If you do not enjoy a thread - do not read it! If you wish to see a thread depart - do not post!

Grow up.

You know, sometimes it can be a bit depressing reading some of the bitchin', back biting, pompous and arrogant utterances that pass for 'comments' on the PPRune pages.......however, once in a while, you lot come good and provide much merriment, tongue in cheek banter, and a hearty dose of excellent old-fashioned humour......BRILLIANT!!
HW Your words quoted, however some posters go passed the 'old fashioned humour' or the 'debate' of a subject. He needlessly bumps a thread with no point of subjecting the board with something new to discuss. This is called a 'Troll' in modern IT circles. His posts simply bring nothing new and are simply to bump a subject keeping it on the front page. If the moderators thought it important they would make it a sticky, they haven't !

HW, you post few but consistently on this thread, so you must have 'clicked his link' or seen his 'quoted posts' a few times by now as well ? Why don't you join his merry band and make it a team of 3 ?

What's with all the censorious Gr9mpy Old Men? You're the ones looking like the trolls for ganging up on WEBF.

If you don't like the thread, simply ignore it.

"If you don't like the thread, simply ignore it. "

The problem in WEBFs case is that he doesnt have the good grace to keep his harrier fantasies in one place, which we can all ignore. Sadly his drivel seems to pop up all over, and its got to the stage on this or other forums, where the merest hint of the word 'harrier' seems to have him emerging eager and ready to spout forth his gospel.

By all means let him have a 'official WEBF garbage posts' thread, on condition he doesnt mention SHAR elsewhere. The problem is that he is cross posting across multiple sites, often using hugely tenuous links to justify his posting, and wasting bandwith rehashing old issues. At the same time, many interesting threads die due to his self imposed policy of deviating any thread which mentions harrier.

He's gone from a mildly amusing distraction to the troll under the bridge in my book - I'd happily give him one thread, on condition he doesnt post elsewhere. Otherwise, I'd rather he was banned for trolling.
