Bad backs at Coningsby!
Just heard a rumour that a few F3 mates have suddenly developed severe back problems that are going to stop them deploying somewhere to the east! Can someone please dispel this rumour? Is this because they've heard there are no five star hotels in Kabul? Or is it just a case of joining to play at being a pilot but when it comes to the crunch they cannot cut the mustard?
Speaking as someone who has a G4 med cat for a bad back I'm afraid it'll not be stopping me having a free camping trip. Mind you I've got a note from my Mum about travelling there in a C130!

Are they Yanks gonna let our F3 boys near their party....thought they had all been forward based in Big Tonys back yard now to protect the motley collection of suddenly serious politicos who were never CND members.... ah how the young grow old and discover their parents werent that stupid after all ....

I am an F3 mate flying daily missions over Southern Iraq, doing my best to thwart the concerted efforts of an increasingly effective IADS to widow my pregnant wife and make my 2 yr old child fatherless. Who the f*ck do you think you are and how dare you question the courage of men and women who, though perservering with a less than perfect airframe, are nonetheless risking their lives in the service of their country up to 200 miles behind enemy lines? You are an ill-informed @rse and your comments are a disgrace to the uniform.

I left the F3 a while ago and there have been alot of changes to the jet recently. It seems that only thing that hasn't changed is the 'is out-turned by a oil tanker/B52/whatever' stigma. Can any other RAF FJ out-turn an F3?
Scary isn't it. Hawks don't count.
I seem to remember the jet being good enough to CAP over Scott O'Grady's crash site in Bos, and that was without the TRD. And that was scary too....
I'm sure many an F3 mate wouldn't hesitate to go sausage side, with or without the 5 star hotel. Comfy uniforms, tasty beds etc.

Underpowered is obviously having a bad day, sooo touchy.
Landing a Harrier with 3 greens is not advised either.
I was around the well known RAFG VSTOL unit (since abused by the army) at the time of the Falklands Campaign. The singlies were all biting at the bit and left behind, and the scalies were all "Wife and family" and got sent. I did not hear one word though once the separation was complete ie Professional head put on and the job done (Well as it happens) I believe that this is probably the case today as it was then, and that once sent, ass will be kicked. As a beefer in `96 the Stn Master put in orders that aircrews were not to gen app to rejoin the front line as he was pussed off with the many that did.
Whatever the situation, take care my friends.

Andis, good luck to you and all your mates. It will be your efforts, rather than mine, that will hopefully get this world on an even keel. You're doing a lot more than I ever did in my 20 years' service.
