Slightly off topic so i appologise,

One thing that has always annoyed me, how about giving more of the troops (all services) a chance of a back seater. Might improve a bit of morale/retention rather than Z list celebs and local town politicians.

MM

PS Well done the Navy on 100 years.

The last OC of 100SQN did his ultimate best to do just that, taking two Hawks to various bases to give 'rides'. It was a huge success.

The same thing went on at Dunsfold; Hawk pilots did take people for 'rides' whenever possible, though as a lot of flying was in 'Test' mode suitable flights didn't come up that often.

As you say, these rides - and just the thought of them - gave a lot of positive input to the workforce, a win / win situation.

Embarked flights in HM's war canoes are pretty good about trips for ship's company when possible.

Airborne

...Did something like that some years ago. my son serving in the RAF was detached to the Gulf and onboard 'Lusty'. Fast forward 2 years and he gets an invite for a families day on said ship in Portsmouth, Mum and dad get an invite too. Middle of the mornining ship start her engines they cast off and we go for a sail around the I-O-W complete with Harrier and helicopter displays, sail back into harbour sitting right up on the front of the flight deck waving at the 'round the harbour' pleasure boats. Brilliant and thanks Navy!
