RAF selection
Hello all,
First things first, I'm applying in the RAF as a pilot. My filter interview is set up in a few weeks time - in principle i want to be an officer. I havent wanted to be a fighter pilot ever since i was 8 etc etc (im not that guy). But i do have a genuine interest in flying and have a few hours flying experience.
I'm aware of OASC and how they test you in order to see if you're the real deal. My question is this - what characteristics, are the selection officers looking for specifically, in their pilots? and what are the deal breakers? I realise how competitive it is, and want to do as much preparation as i can and basically give it my best shot!
Any feedback is appreciated of course and cheers in advance...

Have you had a look at the 'sticky' thread at the top of the page, the one about OASC.
Trawl through that and pick out the bits that best apply to you.
Some general details about yourself - without giving away enough identifiers will sharpen the replies you get - if you are 22 time is tight, what education have you had or are you doing?
Come back on the thread when you have read the sticky if there are unanswered questions.

At the head of this section of PPrune is a major topic called 'OASC CANDIDATES AND WANNABEES'
Read that (good luck, it's quite long, but very informative). If after that, you still have questions, please feel free to post. However, bear in mind you will be 'jumped' on and 'bantered' remorselessly by PPruners, all wannabees are.
Don't let it put you off. However, read ALL of the 'OASC' blah first. Then come back. Pre warned is pre armed.

Within the Royal Air Force, AIDU stands for the Aeronautical Information Distribution Unit.
Within PPrune, AIDU stands for, well, none of the above really.

yeah i gathered i'd be on the recieving end of a lot of banter here, but hey! I give as good as I get 
Sure "discharged", i've just graduated this year with architecture degree part 1 (im not fully qualified architect) have the appropriate a-levels etc. Time isn't on my side, so i wana get it right first time. Its a huge career change for me, but i'm not satisfied working behind an office desk for the rest of my life and in a way wish i'd looked into joining the RAF 3 years ago, but can't win em all.
I think i've got what it takes, but i imagine everybody else applying is thinking the same thing! so my plan is to prepare as much as i can and get some advice from people who are already doing the job im applying for.
I was talkin to my mate who serves in the raf in the regiment and said to me there are 2 types of pilots - one is somebody who is good at aptitidue, carries himself well, good body language etc - the other is ACE at the aptitude, and just couldn't really give a rats ass. pilots are looked at being the RAF ideal, so they've gotta look the part etc.

While it sounds desperately dull, on this group we don't do text-speak, dropping of final consonants etc.
As far as I know the RAF look for a single, fairly clearly defined set of aptitude, skills, ability and values in their aircrew applicants. It's all in the OASC thread. I'd leave your regiments friend's advice well alone.

To join the RAF as a pilot you have to be handsome, sauve, sophisticated and totally debonair. Reactions of a startled rattlesnake, speed of a panther and endurance of an African hunting dog. You need a private income, connections in very high places and be awfully good at polo, pip pip.

I could spend the next 10 minutes thinking of something to say back, but trying to win a battle of wits over the internet is like winning the special olympics.
Obviously you pilots know more than i do, but a friend told me fighter pilots are not born, they're built - so i don't think its a question of you either have it or you don't you just need to believe in yourself more than the other guy (who doesn't get in)
