ALL members of Bomber Command were volunteers and some 55,000 were killed. My late father, Freddie Watts DFC was a pilot who served with 617 Squadron and 630 Squadron. He was lucky - he survived - but felt very strongly to his dying day last year that Bomber Command was ignored because what these incredibly brave young men did is now not considered "politically correct". They were prepared to do their duty for their country in order to beat the Nazis. They were on the sharp end of the conflict and death was almost a certainty but they still did their duty. 30,000 of these true heroes still survive, surely it is time to recognise them

Signed.........................I know there are an awful lot of tomes out there covering the subject of Bomber Command but I feel I must mention 'Bomber Boys' which contains 19 true life experiences occurring between 1942-45. Very humbling to read and this part of one of the paragraphs from the introduction sums up nicely:
"These are the stories of a few of those remarkable yet largely unsung men who helped crush Nazism and were later denied Bomber Command campaign medals by ungrateful and hypocritical governments"
Of 125 000 aircrew, 55 000 lost their lives, 8403 were wounded and 9838, many of them injured, were prisoners of war. Another 2835 men were killed during training in bomber OTU's.

My father-in-law flew Wellingtons, Mossies and Lancs in WWII and [B]still[B] won't talk about it. Signed with pleasure, but with little hope of success with this shower of lily-livered prats in power.

Signed with pride. My father too was a pilot on Stirlings and apart from dropping bombs (and mines) towed gliders across the Rhine and also to Norway.
Some ops involved dropping supplies to SOE agents in Denmark and other occupied countries. He is still alive and I would love to see him collect a medal for what he did then though being in 38 Group he may not have been in Bomber Command.
He is 85 though and like many of is generation won't be around for ever, so the PM needs to pull his digit out.....
