Charlie,
Have looked on the web site , there is no requirement for FE's. Do you know anything more about if they will look at them in the near future. Married to an Aus so there would not be a problem for her getting home.
Any info would be appreciated.

If you check out the last sentence of the original post:

"They may even consider the odd Air Engineer for Maritime as long as they sign a clause to limit themselves to only one choccy bar per sortie and never smelling of wee, tackling fat chicks is something we understand we will never break you out of! ."
Not all jobs are listed on the site just the high priority jobs, if you have what we need, and there is a slot you are in with a chance. Unemployment levels are low in OZ and we find ourselves in a competitive market.

As a recent lateral recruit (cats out the bag, alias blown) they are probabaly but only probabaly, not looking for any more FEs, certainly not on H models. But everything is fluid and things change rapidly.
I know of 1 more definately coming possibly 2.
With the advent of the new "boomy" happening there may well be openings for ex VC10 and Timmy people.

How is it possible that they're after aircrew? I thought these roles were always gigangically oversubscribed.

Or is it that they're after poaching trained people so as to avoid the expense of training them?

1 For the young uns

Dudes/dudettes
There are opportunities for AEOps/WSOps who may be approaching their 12 yr point. All ops will be RADAR and EO as primary then it is up to you to go Nerd Herd or Master of the Dark Arts as your second cat you can even do both if you have the ability. No radios or metal box to look after as we have a chap to do that for us. The night out with Kylie is only after you have passed conversion, PM if you wish more info, we also pay much more than the Kiwis and you get to work with me .

My tuppence worth.....

The taxation of pensions, I believe, is not as straight forward as was first mentioned. Yes it will be taxed however, I understand that if e.g. you've paid 22% at source in the UK and you're paying Income Tax at 40% in Oz, you only then pay the difference i.e. 18% to the Ozzie taxman. Not another 40%. This is called the double taxation rule.

As for FEs jobs. P3 Orions in Adelaide is the only RAAF one recruiting to my knowledge.

Pls feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Not sure of the finer points of Tax as mentioned I am a young'un - ish and have a very dodgy tax agent but can find out from the grey hairs. AP3Cs(not P3Cs) are pretty much the last stand for the Wingers with the transport fleet being replaced, some established dudes have moved to C17 as loadies or as boom drivers for the new Tanker. The AP3C is still lifed till 2018, did I hear 2020/5 but first pass for MMA P8 P.O.S(not short for poseiden) has been approved by Canberra so the writing is on the wall. On the up side Elizabeth does have its share of the larger lady for the a bit of Eng delight.
Still looking for young fresh AEOps(WSOps).

Ginger Beer,

Superannuation (pension) taxation in Australia has just received a massive revamp, but the standard tax rate for superannuation is 15%.

As of last year's budget, any self funded superannuation funds become entirely tax free once the benefitiaries turn 60 years old, and are drawing a pension from the fund. That's everything to do with the fund: earnings, interest, payouts, even no Capital Gains Tax: all tax free

Where UK pensions stand, I'm not sure, but a visit to www.ato.gov.au may shed some light.

John,

Thanks for that. It seems like good news? I believe for anyone making the move, it is worth investing a few hundred quid to get advice from the Brit to Oz accountancy advice companies, plenty on aussie move websites. It will no doubt save you thousands in the long run and if nothing else confirm you are doing the right thing financially?

Contrary to what the website says, the RAAF ATC fraternity are no longer recruiting lateral recruits!

Charlie,
There doesn't appear to be any mention of rotary recruiting, is this still the case?
Cheers

Probably because the RAAF has no rotary.

People went to the ADF a year or so ago to fly rotary - IIRC he posted on here to say goodbye. Maybe he still checks-in occasionally....

As mentioned I don't know as those contraptions are flown by pongos and matelots, not lantern jawed dashing aviators like me.
Army have the Blackhawk, Kiowa and Tiger with NH90 in the wings, the navy have the Seahawk, Squirrel and the Seasprite if it ever flys.
Best advice is email through the website to the other services if you like dirt and do not like women.

Mark IX,

I believe that if you arrive after 1 Jul 07 then it is 5 years before spouses are eligible to apply for Citizenship. Good onya for making the move, no regrets about my move.

If you require any further info PM me.

Regards
Ona

More needed

Maritime in particular is in dire need of more RAF members making the move. The wing now finds themselves dangerously low in experience and corporate knowledge, something only the lateral RAF members can provide. I emplore you to look past the cash and make the move based on your ability to help develop a floundering organisation.
