If it's any consolation, Aunty Betty buys the Issue watch at a fraction of the price the civvy one was.

Good point; but I used to get paid for it.

Nice to see a topic that can get you gentlemen almost as enthused as leather jackets. But I was wondering, how would a person have a working aircrew watch, with NSN and MOD arrow, to sell on e-bay...

there's nothing wrong with my breightling either
Stores stole my watch off me when I left, I'd had the same one for my whole service and, while it sometimes told the right time, it was the least stylish thing I've ever seen and why someone would pay actually folding stuff for one I don't know. The one I handed back has probably been on eBay by now.
Ah well, each to their own.

"FWIW, the current model is a Pulsar Chronograph which, apparently, is not as good as the Seiko - progress eh?"
Pulsar is made by Seiko, so i assume the MOD were just enticed by the cheaper model of the same watch. Just think Audi A3 and Skoda Oktavia....

Aircrew Watch
Broomstick - I wore a CWC and then a Seiko Aircrew Chronograph watch (eventually with a date) for 28 years in the Service - while they were adequate for second timing for what we needed them for (and made great conkers in the bar!) - if you want split second timing and a top quality watch thrown in start saving up for your choice of Breitling instead! The Chronometre Aerospace is a far superior watch - put your GBP250 toward the first installment!

Aircrew Watch
Seeing as we are having a really good time discussing the pros and cons of watches can any of you help me, my aircrew watch second hand is stuck at the 16 seconds position - i.e. it returns to this position when the stop watch is reset!
Now a friendly nav told me once how to sort this out, in fact he used to p**s pilots off by borrowing their watches and setting the second hand at some arbituary position, but the mists of time have seen me forget.
Can anyone help?

Reallydeskbound, with the expectation of inbound about being a watch spotter I will attempt to help!
Pull out the crown to the first click and then push one of the other 3 buttons, all control one of the functions, am not that much of a spotter (nor am I obviously able to spell breightling/brieghtling - oh whatever!!) to be able to tell you which button does what but hope it helps!

You are, indeed, right. The Pulsar watch is being provisioned via Seiko in place of the Seiko one we've been discussing. The reason I couldn't find the Defence Standard for is because Def Stan 66-4 Part No 2 (open to everyone on the DEFSTAN Website) has been cancelled.

Thank you for your question as it has exposed a possible anomaly in the application of NATO Codification.

Mine looks a bit like the top picture except I have the Seiko branding at the 12 o'clock position and the 3 o'clock is filled with a 1/10s dial.
It's genuine issue so I guess I got one of the previous generation

I've had my issue Seiko nearly 3 years and it's been fine. However, there have been a lot of faulty ones, and it became a joke how often mates on course were returning them to stores faulty. I wouldn't waste my money on one, unless I could get it for a lot less than £100. Much better stuff out there. I've never used it in the air, aircraft clock much better.

I always used to use my Omega Seamaster all the time except when flying with a goon suit with the rubber wrist seals - to prevent damage by the Omega's metal strap - then I put on my issue Seiko. Unfortunately the Omega's strap just broke, it costs shedloads to replace, so I am currently using the Seiko again. I have had mine for 10 years, it never loses time and it is generally OK.

Armless
Anyone know where I can get a new hand for my watch as Mickeys arm fell off during a vigorous game of Mess rugby? I am not sure if there is a NSN for this watch but would appreciate any advice from all the experts that frequent this thread
