I am surprised that when the IP in back says "eject" slightly out of context the stude didn't leave then. You have a v serious donk problem with low airspeed and altitude, you are thinking about leaving and the other guy says we might have to eject (or wording very similar) BUT did say eject just prior to the prepare to abandon malarky. I'd have been heading up the rails before he'd finished the ejec.......WHOOOOSH.

nice tie please.

Also scuse the bad transcripting from the tape, I are a slightly deaf ex sootie with a loud music problem.....

Me too, pba; I looked extra carefully and couldn't see one primary school/hospital/retirement home to be avoided. There wasn't even a "P*ss off, Biggles" sign on a barn.

I take it everyone knows the story of the stude in this vid?

Basically, after this incident he was grounded for a few months for medical reasons (lack of a serviceable spine being the chief one), and once returned to flying duties found he couldn't cope with the pressure of flying fast-jets any more - he'd lost the edge, so he turned in his wings. I mean, he had a wife and kids and he'd never even seen 'em.

He's since left the Air Force, grown his hair long and disappeared on the hippie trail to the Far East... Sad story! Its a shame, he was a good man.

NOTE - may not be entirely factual.

my ignorance but always wonder what close (d?) right stop is?? Is he indicating to tower that he is going to do a tight right circuit to a full stop landing?
A Closed is the R/T for a Closed Pattern. (Climbing 180 degree turn to traffic pattern altitude which intercepts the overhead break pattern) Right is the direction and Stop is his intentions. (Only given for a Fullstop landing so that ATC can co-ordinate with other aircraft as the runway is occupied for a longer length of time)

IIRC the T6NL refers to either a T6 of 685 degrees C or higher, or an NL of greater than 108% on the T1. Is this the same on the 115? If the bird was ingested into the engine, is it likely to have been a T6 in this case, as the engine cooked itself, or might the NL have risen significantly?

Mr Sanchez : Close, but not a full cigar.....

Stude made 3 attempts to lower PSP, and got it down in time, just....
IP tried to lower but had too much back pain to root-around behind him to find the release. Hence broken femur on impact with ground. Correct, he never flew bang-seat aircraft again. Sounds like an auto-lowering PSP required....

Then, last Friday, another Hawk 115 crash at MJ. Neither IP or Stude lowered their PSP, allegedly...... And no broken femurs'.

??

I'm not too convinced by the explanations I've seen so far for " right stop " - could mean ' right, stop what you're doing/ there ', a throttle detent or going for an engine LP or HP cock in the heat of the moment - I'm sorry to read that the instructor had such bad injuries from what is supposed to be a relatively 'smooth ride' seat - all the best to him.

You may not be convinced Double Zero but that doesn't alter the fact that what saudipc-9 said was pretty much exactly what was meant by that R/T call...

An auto PSP lowering system sounds a good idea but would mean yet another system which can go wrong; catering for incapacitated aircrew ejecting, wouldn't it be an idea to make the thing into a shock absorber/ survival pack - if definitely flying over land - more useful than a dinghy ?!

I know front line types bear this in mind, but maybe the seat guys could come up with useful ideas if anyone asked them - that was my experience with bang seats and their extremely dedicated engineers...

F-16 eh?!
Surely a wind up?
My word, I've read some rubbish before now, but this is right up there for dufus of the century reporting. Was it written by the Sun?! Or perhaps a small child?

Don't forget that as far as many of those in the Land of the Free are concerned no other country makes military aircraft so it has to be an F16.

AT: Stop insulting small children. Many of them can write better English than that.

They actually turned towards the town, but town is miles away, no way the wreckage could go that far. Almost anywhere you turn in SK, it's OK to crash the plane. However the IP risked the injuries of a very low ejection to ensure the plane does go into a field, not into the housing area for military families, which is exactly where the plane would have crashed if he kept turning, as it is only a couple of thousand feet north of the runways...

As the mishap aircraft was a Hawk, then they'd still be correct in this case, wouldn't they?!

And, many of us have seen "Iron Eagle 1, 2, or XX," so we also recognize MiGs (or at least the word).
