k3k3,

"I don't believe you.

If you could run that fast everybody would have heard of you, and you'd have a chest full of Olympic medals."

Thats not very nice mate. Two miles in 9 mins 22 is very very respectable, but also very achievable with a bit of effort at the gym. Its nowhere near olympic standard....

The world record is just under 8 mins for that distance.

I think you'll find the claim is 2 1/2 miles in 9 mins 22 secs or 3 min 45 sec miles for 2 1/2 of them! It aint happening fella!!

2 1/2 miles is pretty close to 4000m and world champions tend to go through the 4000m mark in the 5k race at about 10 mins 15 secs so our keen chappie is cantering along quite nicely.

"And the winner of the mens 4000m is Mr Walter Mitty"

Here at Cosford we are now doing the brand new OFT. It has not been sanctioned yet but it is coming soon to a gym near you. Involves lots of pointless ****e like carrying sandbags and shoveling gravel through a hole three feet off the ground. Quite how any of this makes me a better technician I can't say. I also read today that the basic RAF fitness test is going to be upgraded. Does this mean that an 18 year old girl will now have to reach a higher standard than a 40 year old man?

Track and Field World Records:

2 miles 7:58.61 Daniel Komen (KEN) 19 Jul 1997 at Hechtel
5000 m 12:37.35 Kenenisa Bekele (ETH) 31 May 2004 at Hengelo

Our man here is doing a mile in 3:44.8 seconds for 2.5 miles.
The 2-mile world record holder ran at an average of 3:59.3 per mile.
The 5000m world record holder ran at an average of 4:02.3 per mile.

Our man is an undiscovered prodigy, it would seem. Agents step back; I saw him first...!

IAAF world record website:

http://www.iaaf.org/statistics/recor...ea=/index.html

World record for 3000m (not steeplechase) = 7mins 20.67 secs
World reord for 5000m = 12mins 37.35 secs.

Assuming a linear relationship, a slight, but not unreasonable assumption, the world record for 4000m would be approx. 9mins 59.01 secs. Given that 2 1/2 miles is 4023m, our TokZik, at 9mins 22 secs, is about 37 secs ahead of a world record.

Either that or he is talking ................!!!!!!

Don't worry too much about it once you're in. There's a fat WRAF Sqn Ldr that got promoted and she's been medically unfit (i.e. too fat) to take the test ever since she failed in in the late nineties. Very little point having the 'test' if you don't need to take it. I'm sure the fact that her Father was a heroic Harrier pilot has absolutely nothing to do with it.

She certainly wouldn't be able to get into a Harrier without a crowbar!

TokZik

Admit it, you are going to be an accounts officer because your maths doesn't seem up to much. By the way to type a ½, hold down Alt and type 171.

Not about being a better technician, its part of the soldier first, trade specialist second, someone should tell the high ups though, that we dont have soldiers in the airforce!, Lossie are introducing the 4 strikes and your out for the fitness test soon, fat knackers look out! cheap way of getting rid of people!

How about , if 4 fat knackers pass their fitness test Lossie gets axed? Ho hum.

Be funny to see the first sexual discrimination lawsuit when someone gets the boot for failing then, given the disparity in male / female standards; hope the legal beagles have got this one sewn up.

If the RAF is serious about getting fitter, then we have to change our entire ethos - flying will not come first, soldiering skills and fitness will, with the appropriate training being part of the normal working day. Either do it properly or don't bother wasting all of our time with ****e like AFT / OFT / IDT / IRT.
