I took FRI 1. 30K reduced by tax to 17.5. I now have 2 years remaining. With hindsight should I have taken my option, not the FRI? - without doubt yes. I have just turned down promotion and a command. I feel my emotional attachment to the service has died, it now only remains towards my colleagues.

Don't be seduced by money..there are many more intangible benefits to consider, both in and out of the service. If FRI does reappear...my advice is to think wisely guys. I wish my thinking had been clearer.

You are so right! I took the FRI for NCA which was 2 x £5K reduced to £3K after tax. It did seduce me to stay in for the two years it ran for but with hindsight that was a big mistake on my part.

I also wish my thinking had been somewhat clearer!

Still never mind...

Single Page

Having not had the displeasure of reading the FRI cancellation document. I was shocked today to learn it is a single page not a document at all with no explaination why. In addition why has it not answered the most common question - what has happened to the Apr 07 cancellation date?

Can anyone confirm what has actually been cancelled.
Is it the FRI for RAF,AAC and RN, or single service?

I think its just the RAF but can't be certain. Im not sure about the AAC but there hasn't been any rumblings to suggest that the RN is losing the FRI. Be difficult to see the RN losing it at the moment....unless they can produce some more Aircrew pretty sharpish were gonna be short for a while yet.

The notification I saw was from Army to Army stating that FRI for all AAC pilots will cease by cop 31st Mar 2006. It wouldnt and doesnt mention the other 2 services as its an Army Information Notice (AIN). Stick a P in front of that little number.

The Army is overmanned with aircrew hence we have lost FRI, not sure on the other services ??????

Problems is if the Navy are so short and we have to many why not send our excess Lynx crews as loan crew to the Navy. Surely a trained Lynx driver is better than a newby even if its a different role and he is available now.
