Question "You're Fired!"

Blimey, it's not often you turn on the telly and see someone you know, especially when it's on such a high profile programme such as BBC's "The
Apprentice."
I turned on last night to see one of the female contestants, Karen Bremner, nearly get "fired" by Sir Alan. Karen is an 'Ex-wife' of one of our fellow prooners, who I used to work with at Kinloss. She was also the singer in the Station band 'av some.' At some point she ditched her job as a solicitor to become an RAF Officer. Now she looks set to do well on "The Apprentice."
Wonder if any other prooners know her!

Yep - On IOT with Karen (No173).

Thought her time in the airforce was as a trainer though - anyone know when she left? She has not changed at all character wise in the 8 years since.

Yes, Karen was an Admin (Trainer) for a while before transferring to the Legal Branch. She used to help us out on the Senior Officers' Media courses at sunny Halton in the days when I was paid to simulate asking senior officers rude questions on-camera (note to self, stop doing it now, you don't do that job and your'e off-camera) and Karen was brilliant at putting the "knife in" as any attractive female journalist would with a macho senior flyboy who tried the "don't worry about this babe you wouldn't understand" approach. I might add that all the really sharp operators never fell for this line even from Karen!

I knew Karen - I did her final restrictions parade as SDC on our last night at Cranditz - literally the night before passing out! I'll have to watch the programme - she was quite a character and well-respected.

(Edited: it was SDC)

She's the best of an average bunch in the girls' team, IMHO, and was well up for their plan in last night's programme. Challenge was to produce a calendar to raise money for Gt Ormond St, AS's fav charity.

So the girls produced a calendar featuring cats. WTF was going through their heads?

Guess that wasn't covered in IOT?

I cannot for the life of me, understand why this woman is a candidate on the programme.

She has a track record which shows fail, fail, fail, fail.

She is divorced, so a failure.

She is an ex-officer, so clearly was not cut out for that career.

She is a lawyer, or at least one who no longer feels able to further her career in that profession, and wants to opt out, so yet another black mark against her.

She is 34 years old. 34 !!! and still not settled down and happily married with 2.4 kids.

She looked 'fierce' and 'hard' so I cannot ever see her being able to command respect in business.

I can easily predict where she will be in 10 years time, and she won't like it at all.

I would not even let her work in the photocopy room at ICI.

Just where do the TV producers get the people for today's programmes?

It was very different in my day!

I despair for the country!

After giving the matter some deep and meaningful consideration, I conclude that I think I probably would...

Actually Westy, my first thought was "they have some dodgy rip-off, rather than the original show with 'The Donald'?" ..... Amidst the appalling dross of 'reality television' I think the first couple of series of "The Apprentice" (the real one, not the Beeb rip-off) were quite enjoyable.

But the rest of the 'reality' genre

Well, she certainly has been (fired that is!)
Karen, our very own Ex-Admin Trainer only lasted 3 challenges. What I find amusing is that she got fired because she did not speak up for herself!!!! What, Karen not speak up?

Don't know the gal but was looking forward to seeing her interview on Mighty's BBC link above .....

Unfortunately BBC Two video content is only available to users within the UK. We're sorry for any disappointment.

I thought it was her when I saw her on week 1 ... am sure she was pregnant when I last saw her? (That last comment is of no real relevance, just an observation ...).

I was at IOT at the same time as Karen Bremner and I have to say that she ain't changed! Self-centred, self-opinionated with little understanding of what the military meant to her life. We (staff) got the distinct impression that she was there to prove to her ex- that anything he could do she could do too!

Did you notice her body language both in the boardroom last week and this when she began to realise that the knives were out for the leader? When ever Sir A spoke, her head would nod in agreement. Where's her team spirit there? She was exactly the same on IOT "Yer on yer own mate! I'm with the Boss!"

That said, she didn't deserve to be fired last night but I suspect Sir A was not as restricted in his actions as we were on IOT!

Last point, she was a lawyer, became an Admin Trainer and transferred to the Legal Branch whilst in.

No, I wouldn't. I've never sh*gged a cold hard heart, and I don't intend to start now.

Well - nice to see her out of uniform. Memories of her post at QCY of Stn Trg Officer being disestablished, while she was in it - if you can't justify your own job, jump ship to the Legal Branch. Then out. Mess harpies - we all need them.

I thought she was one of the best of a mixed bunch on the show, and fell foul of Sugar's 'anti-lawyer' chippiness. And she speaks warmly of her time in the RAF - this is from her website:

"I was starting to get itchy feet. As a teenager I was really involved in the Air Training Corps and always wondered about the Royal Air Force. I ended up joining in April 1998 - the best move I have ever made! The next 6 years were a whirlwind of amazing experiences in amazing places. I met the best people you could ever hope to meet; I flew in numerous helicopters, twice in the back of Hercules and had the honour of a backseat flight in a Tornado F3 whilst on a 7 month tour in the Falkland Islands.

It was only after meeting one of the men in my life (Darren) and giving birth to the other
(Cameron) that I decided that I had to leave the job I loved.

I found myself in the strange position of being (I thought) highly qualified but unable to get a job
which had the responsibility and professional satisfaction which I had enjoy in the RAF. No-one really seemed to understand what I could bring to the table. So when the opportunity arose to apply to join the company of one of the most successful businessmen in Britain, I jumped at the chance. And the rest, as they say, is history."

Living in Scotland with her partner and an 18 month old child, what would she have done if she actually won?
