Charlie was glad to have the 1939-1945 Star ribbon to go with his DFC, but wondered how they already knew the War would be over in 1945.

Holding a pint pot not being lady like, Doris had to rely on a bit of mouth to mouth.

Not a caption .., is that a metal Eagle and Crown on the wg cdr’s right sleeve, just above his rank braid? And if so ... why?! Is he ... foreign Air Force? is it RAAF?

Meanwhile ... Julia had mixed feelings about being the Raffle prize, but was pleased the wg cdr won.

There was a gentle tearing sound ... but Jane was relieved to discover it was only the newspaper.

The CO made cunning use of the Daily Mail to conceal what his left hand was doing.

Its RAAF. The Wing Commander is Wg Cdr Kemp, OC 463 Sqn at the end of WW2. (I met his son about a year ago, and he has confirmed that the lady in the photograph is definitely not his mother!)

Yes, and his beer is all over her front. The Daily Mail protects the reputation of the boys in light blue.

Playing Australian Rules, the CO went for an ‘up and under’, but was rebuffed.

Miranda prayed Section Officer Harvey would be along soon, as she really couldn’t cope with the whole squadron herself.

All at once, Sheila realised that the Australians knew all about her aversion to RAF moustaches.

“Oh, that’s a very thin moustache!”
”Don’t fret, it can get bigger.”

The following morning, the squadron was designated for Tiger Force.

* From Wiki ... Good heavens, so it was! "In July, the squadron relocated to RAF Skellingthorpe, remaining there until it was disbanded in September or October 1945.[Note 1] Prior to its disbandment, it had been intended that No. 463 Squadron would form part of "Tiger Force", the British and Commonwealth contribution to the air forces allocated to attack Japan as part of Operation Downfall; however, the war in the Pacific ended before they could be deployed.[6]"

The Air Traffic Controller at the back was watching carefully in case the CO tried to enter the Restricted Hairspace without a clearance.

Bertie wondered if he should tell the boss that he wasn't the first thing that Doris had tickling her tonsils that night.

With the war over and the end of rationing in sight, Hector was glad to see in the future it wouldn't just be chips that came wrapped in newspaper.
