It would be brave and foolish to join FlyDubai with the expectation of moving to Emirates in a few years. It has happened in the past and it might happen in the future but the rules change quickly and without warning in the Middle East. Don't read anything at all into the fact that nothing is written down about a no poaching agreement. Both airlines have the same owner, they don't need to write anything down and in any case written agreements (and employment contracts!) are flexible around here.

to make one thing clear for - in the UAE nothing must be written or stated anywhere, still it will be handled in a certain way.

if you want to change from FZ to EK you have to resign from FZ, be not employed there for a min of one year, thereafter your application will may be considered by EK.
FZ and EK have more or less the same bosses at the very very top, and the same owner.

it’s a word from them dripping down the lines and that’s it how it will be handled.

there is nothing you can do about it, you cannot go to anywhere and recall a book or a letter and you will get away with it.
just listen to what’s written here a 1000 times you will have no rights in this country, not even there is a paper saying anything different.
FZ and EK have a no pouching agreement internally. That’s it.

in fact in one of our chief pilot meetings, someone brought up this topic and it was denied by the managements saying that it’s never flydubai decision. taking in consideof individuals circumstances, and career preferences

I apologize, I take my words back. It seems there is something with ek and fz of at the moment. I had a word with a friend who said he was planed for an interview and got canceled last minute with the giving reason of not qualified for the job. Also said this thing happened with many pilots who’s interested.

anyway if this is true I wish them the best if it changes

gamola 5th Jul 2023 12:35

back to topic: anybody knows how the situation is right now for airbus-rated applicants? i applied roughly 2 months ago, just sent my personal details/flight hours etc. about 6 weeks ago, that was the last thing i heard from them; whereas my boeing colleague already did his first online test after some days of applying...

lyfabvclds 6th Jul 2023 02:37

hello everyone,
Can someone share real insight as to what would be the realistic requirements to be called for an interview with EK? currently not rated on an airbus or Boeing but my long term plan is to join EK as my family is based out of DXB. Not too long ago EK's requirements were different, they did not specify Boeing or airbus but looks like that has changed. Any tips or insights would be highly appreciated.

A320LGW 6th Jul 2023 12:24

I have been told EK were not happy with the standard of some of the ATR and Dash 8 turboprop pilots that came through, hence the change in requirements. Can someone who is there confirm this?

Climb150 6th Jul 2023 18:55

Requirements change as pilot supply changes. I remember around 2014 you could join EK with only TP time. It's been off and on for ages.

virga 208 7th Jul 2023 02:43

It boils down to supply and demand, the minute they can't find TR people they will either widen their scope or raise the salaries or both...one of the things i learned in this profession is to be patient.

Completely not true. In fact the opposite was true. Unfortunately TP guys require more training resources and the main issue is availability of trainers right now to do the extra training.

is it true EK just got about 100 ex Cathay pilots ?

HeadUpTheTailpipe 9th Jul 2023 15:22

Only 100? I thought it would be more.

Two random Qs:

This BMI below 30 restriction... ill make sure ik under it for the interview but is this something im going to have to cut back under every year when i do my medical or is it like most things they don't care once you are through the door?

Applying for accommodation allowance, is this done on seniority or do you just lodge an application after you have joined and wait an indefinite amount of time to be given it? How long on average is the wait? Also if given the go ahead how long do you have to find a property to buy?

Cheers!

Whitemonk Returns

You will need to keep your BMI below limits, as they do not 'like most things they don't care once you are through the door?' Not sure where you get the idea that you can do what you like if you get in. They watch you all the time, so don't get the idea that it's a free for all, or you will be out before you arrive.

Good luck

Once you are in, they keep an eye on the BMI but the extent of the monitoring is a function of age, blood pressure and lipid/sugar profile. BMI over 35 will lead to a lot of pressure from the company but otherwise it's just a minor PIA.

I'm not sure what the rules are for noew joiners but if you are in company accomodation, you have to buy before you request the opt out. Once you have the required documents(title deed, utility bill, etc) you apply online and it is approved in a day or two. You can elect to move as soon as you like.

Whitemonk Returns 11th Jul 2023 18:30

In most countries the initial Class 1 medical is much stricter than the yearly renewals, I thought the BMI under 30 limit would be something similar, especially considering it is a nonsense measurement for anyone fit and healthy who has a stockier build... but I get it, they take it seriously... sheesh...

Under 40 in the UK the doctors couldnt care less if I walked in smoking!

On the live out allowance question, i gather 20% deposit seems to be the minimum requirement in Dubai, if i could ask what would be a reasonable amount to expect to pay for a 4 bed property within a bus ride to Kent College or one of the other schools? I've had a look online and it seems you can pick up a place from £300k to £400k but I have no idea what kind of areas they are in yet. Is there any risk you arrange to buy somewhere and then the company refuse you to leave their accommodation and you are stuck paying for a property you dont live in? Cheers for the advice.

If you are fit and healthy then they will not blink at your BMI but if your BMI is above 30 age above 50 high cholestorol, high BP, then you going to visit the clinic every 3 months. It's a PIA but actually it's not a bad thing...

No, the company won't refuse to allow you to live out, as long as you can produce a title deed, a statement of owned property from Lands Dept and a DEWA bill. That said, **** happens and there are probably a handful of stories of guys that could not get the required documents from the developer for example, title deeds only being produced a year after delivery when buying an off plan project. I don't know anyone that this happened to but you hear stories. That said, just stick in between the lines and 99,9% of cases work out normally. If push comes to shove you can always rent out the property...

I'm not familiar with the area you want to buy but, yup, 20% deposit and then budget another 7% for transaction costs...

Do you know what an oxymoron is?

Can anyone shed some light on how the pension works? Are there restrictions on where you can love to claim it during retirement? Is it 12% and company match that? Apologies, I'm somewhat clueless on this front.

I am also going through the same research process. I've been looking at dubizzle and I think if you want to get something in a reasonable area that's comparable or better than MS, you're looking in excess of £700k.

More training resources required because they are turbo prop rated only and require a JOC and perhaps circuits I believe. Not because they are rubbish!
