I will agree with BYLAW. Because you can cut and paste as well as anyone else here on this thread, or for that matter on PPrune, just what exactly are you trying to say?
Do you really think that the training here at EK is above average, or for that matter superior to something that can be found anywhere else? I will disagree with you on that one. The style and execution of the training here is what was done by the rest of the modern industry in the 60's and 70's and found lacking then, so replaced. Even the cabin crew training has evolved to teaching in the 21st century, why cannot the Flight training dept also evolve with the times? Is there such a blame culture here, that there always has to be someone held accountable, and the finger points toward the end user (poor slob who thinks he here to be trained and not checked) and not toward the real problem of a training department, that in and among themselves have no real experience in the process of actually being able to TEACH! Where do the teachers get their knowledge and experience from? In other established companies, it takes more than a year to make an instructor who actually knows what they are doing, and just not how to read what is in the FOM, and spit it back at you. I realize that Emirates is growing as fast as it can, but that is no reason to skimp on giving the line pilots the best possible INSTRUCTION and I will say that again, INSTRUCTION that can be given. I do not work for the training dept, but they should DAM*N well work for me. Now after ranting on as I have, there are some very fine individuals, who go out of their way to actually do a fine job . These gentlemen come prepared and enjoy what they are doing. I will not paint the entire training dept with the same wide brush. But it really is time for some internal policing, and time to change the culture of a training dept that checks and grades you on what a book says and then will not show you how to actually do the job required. I challenge the training dept to actually train. Anyone can sit at the console of the simulator and throw problem after problem at a student. It takes a REAL teacher to show where they went wrong,and put it in a way that they can learn something positive, and not walk away after the session shaking their heads wondering why the F**K am I even bothering. |
It would appear that EKs opinion towards training can be reflected by the fact that the VP training is also the CP Boeing. Its not as if these two jobs are important enough to require full time attention. I am sure this is not the case of the holder of these positions being paid bonuses for the amount of jobs done.
It would almost be as bad, as a gentleman who has a great deal of experience working in a unionised regional jet outfit, within a country with ATC that works and airfields everywhere, giving advice towards the EK fuel policy. |

Can confirm DEC's have only ONE LOFT, and that's not even a 'failsim' as someone put it before, just a kind of demonstration...
Let's put it this way, I was FO on one of the LOFT's for a DEC, had to do almost all the work, and afterwards got a remark that I gave to much input to the (incompetent) DEC. I know that some of the DEC's are quite good, but we also have some really poor ones, with no long haul or modern aircraft experience, who have a very easy go at command within EK. Anyhow, it makes me wish that I stayed a few more years at my previous outfit at a higher salary, and come over as a DEC once I got the criteria... About the training, well, it sucks! Some instructors are really good, some are complete @55h0le5. Never had a problem yet, but I can understand how some people have huge training problems, and all that because of a weird TRI/TRE... Anyhow, I hope to get my upgrade ASAP, with very strict but fair trainers... MR8 |

There are good trainers and bad trainers but by definition most are average. Its the same with line pilots most of us are average. The DEC training programme is ludicrous but thats not the average trainers fault.
Emirates is the first airline that I have worked for that a lot of guys seem to blame the trainers for their own shortcomings. Most other places, guys seem to have the humility to look at their own act first before they start trying to look for scape goats and excuses.:uhoh: |

Do you think that could possibly have anything to do with the elitism that your selection process engenders in people who have passed but have a possibly less than spectacular performance in a previous "tame " outfit. ,ie being checked by their mates. I refer to regions/companies where everyone has "capt" on their title from ppl onwards. As recently as 2000 ek was a place to aspire to. As the standards seem to have dropped according to these boards, why hasnt the elitism associated with the selection dropped accordingly. This could be the problem. Inexperienced ( read ,only jet time on antiquated boeing in effectively unregulated region paying lip service to icao) person gets thru interview for whatever reason, meets a system that is more than name only( see previous brackets) , doesnt do well ,expects a command in three, and blames the system. They may also extend thier anger to DECS who MAY have a wealth of experince globally. This doesnt exempt dec form the same syndrome though. To the person who has been calling themselves captain since they were a teenager, loves the kudos associated with getting into ek, flying a modern longhaul jet,(unnavailable to them before recently with the drop in hrs and types) and being the ace of the base , a bit of criticism could be devastating. Just wondering. I call it " person with mickey mouse background playing the system and getting p1ssed off when the system catches up" syndrome. I feel sorry for the chaps with impeccable provenances being shafted, but not those whose experience backgrounds wouldnt pass a proper check, or even an investigation by dog the bounty hunter. References are easy if your former chief pilot is your brother in law or similar Flame on. PS I have passed before we go down that slaggin off road. |
EK Group: post-interview wait
I went through the interview process in Dubai a week ago for a management staff position. Just wondering what is normal wait time before you hear back about the decision.

I have an interview coming up with EK and would greatly appreciate any info about the process. I DID do the search and all i can find is:" do a search". so if any body has any useful information I will greatly appreciate it. Cheers. |
Day 1: All the paperwork, logbooks,etc. gets checked. Now you do a 30 question techincal paper. Then you go off to the sim for a checkride. Either the B777 or A310.
Day2: If you made it through day 1 you will be asked to attend day 2 and 3. This day consists of CRM excersises and after that you go on a tour of Emirates and their facilities. Day 3: Your psycho''s and final interview. Good luck |
Be yourself, be sincere and enjoy the other guys from around the world you will be interviewing with. They all will have their reasons for coming to EK, but most will be coming from companies that are losing money, not growing, or on their last legs;they are looking for stability in their lives and a profession with a future.

I don't think that is accurate as Emirates seems to have been rejecting the American RJ candidates at the first stage of the interview. |
EK Pay, Per Diem & conditions
I have seen the EK 1st year FO pay scales, but how does it look after year 1 including "overtime" and per diem?

EK Flight Crew Apartments?
What are the typical single-FO company provided apartments like?
-Size in sq. meters? -Ameneties (pool, gym etc)? -Location If you elect not to take their offering, what allowances do they pay for accomodation? |

No probs with accomodation. However the rest of these mobs will jump up and complain.. They have mastered the art of crying woof and complaining about everything and anything Emirates offers them. I.E accomodation, yet they continue to work for the airline. Ring the airline directly if you want a confirmed answer and speak with accomodation. You might be waiting for your call to be answered for a while, but this is due to people like "rat poison" who interogate the admin staff for hours on how to get the toilet water to turn blue... Falcon, Accomodation is Great.. Your facilities are provided for you and the best thing about it, IT DOESNT COST YOU ANYTHING... Enjoy:) |
You will have to be online minimum 1 year to go on the A340 where the overtime is. Must line guys on the A330 dont do overtime. Dont know about the B777.
Dont calculate on overtime. You might not get it when you need it. Per Diem will feed you, but not much more. hope that clears it up for you. Inflation is high, but it includes the astronomical increases in rent. Since you are not subject to paying rent, the actuall inflation is much less. |
