They have a "holding/talent" pool full of pilots but will continue to have open days for pilot recruitment this year. I assume CTC has taken the place for any future FTSO or NTSO recruitment.

Dash-8/300 hours

Dash-8/300 hours

Hi,

I have Dash-8/300 hours, which is 19500 KG MTOW (Not 20,000 KG). Not sure if that qualifies!

"Minimum of 1,000 hours in one of the following categories; Multi crew, multi engine jet aircraft, or command turbo-prop above 20,000 kg MTOW or high performance military jet (Multi Crew Co-operation certificate required)".

Is there any non type rated pilot with Dash-8/300 hours who applied and accepted.

Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

I am referring to FO application not NTSO.

ksh 20th Jun 2013 13:21

The MPL programme by CTC Wings for Qatar Airways is to train Ab-Initio pilots to end up being First officers only on the Airbus 320.

Qatar Airways Pilot Training - Cadet Programme | CTC Wings (check course milestones)

They should still need NTSO and FTSO on other fleet.

Thoughts anybody ??

Obbie 20th Jun 2013 21:00

No, it's called a fleet transfer, and they are lined up trying to get
off the 320 onto something better.

casablanca 21st Jun 2013 00:28

One rumor floating around is that the 320 would be the joining aircraft for everyone.......I personally don't think it is possible as that would triple their training for an already over- stressed traing department.

SIDS N STARS 21st Jun 2013 01:10

What is the difference between a FTSO on the 320 and a DEFO on the 320?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but my understanding is a FTSO, once checked to line, is an FO. How is this different to a DEFO once they're checked to line?

ADY 21st Jun 2013 07:59

Does Qatar Airways accept FO with zero hours on A320,just type rated, or they ask for a minimum experience?

SIDS N STARS 21st Jun 2013 09:21

They want 500 hours on type, or you have to do the whole type rating again.

JGSE 21st Jun 2013 16:28

Can someone please confirm me if the entry basic salary for an A320 Type Rated First Officer, at or above the published minimum requirements, is 24200 QAR.
Thanks a lot.

salamalikum2 21st Jun 2013 16:37

No its 21500 QAR...well unless you are Qatari,then it's 60% more!:E

Thanks Salamalikum! :ugh:

Are you sure ? it's not what I've heard, could you confirm please, thx.

salamalikum2 22nd Jun 2013 11:30

YES,I do confirm, the entry level salary for a F/O is 21500 QAR.
The value mentioned by JGSE(24200 QAR) is for Senior first officer( after 3 years as a operational F/O in the company,(based on your final line check))

davidsata 22nd Jun 2013 18:50

hello gentlemen, does anybody knows if pilots who applied for second officers fast track and had been waiting in the talent pool for more than 9 months will be called at some point?

cheers

Sorry I'm talking about what you mentionned regarding the Qatari's salary, what I've heard is the contrary, they don't have 60% difference that's why many of them are leaving for the army where they get that 60% increase of salary

Airmann 23rd Jun 2013 02:52

No, Qatari's get extra salary from the government, not from QR. All Qatari's get a share of the wealth of the country.

As for leaving for the Air Force it's because they get an even higher salary and their job consists of them flying around in a mirage or alpha jet for a maximum of 2 hours a month and then going home and relaxing with their gigantic paycheck. Definitely beats minimum rest turn arounds and the crap that goes with commercial aviation.

JGSE 23rd Jun 2013 04:05

Hello again everyone,

From what I understand so far, the joining fleet for an experienced A320 First Officer will be the A320, so how long it takes to progress to another fleet (WB)?

Thanks a lot!

salamalikum2 23rd Jun 2013 10:11

If you are already rated ( lets say A320, and you join the 320 fleet)you will be frozen for 2 years on the fleet before being eligible for transfer.( 3 years if you are not rated),

Back to the money issue, apparently the 2013 housing survey ,shows that residents are feeling pinch from rising rents..( Doha news)
Here we are again.
Seems Unfortunately that the rumor about house allowance increase has evaporated with the summer scorching temperature.

supersonic75 23rd Jun 2013 14:12

Fleet transfer ?!

i know some one ( 320 captain ) with more than 5 years of flying with QR and didn't get a fleet transfer , he said he was begging them for the last 2 years to go to any WB fleet ...and he also doesn't see it coming soon :ugh: ...he said for now and also for the next years they wouldn't be able to do it !! they are already over-stuffed with new joiners who can not be trained ( lack of Sims , lack of training/safety pilots ...etc) and this issue will get more complicated as they will keep getting their new airplanes .

any body here has any info about ( fleet transfer) currently in QR ? do you know anyone got it recently ??

A300skipper 24th Jun 2013 10:55

What are the chances if any, of changing your fleet allocation that has been posted on your offer of employment?

speedhold 24th Jun 2013 12:08

A300 skipper

Very unlikely I asked hr that question and was told no ..maybe someone eles has input.

Iver 24th Jun 2013 13:28

In regards to fleet transfers, once your 3 year post-training period is finished, can one "bid" or request another fleet (i.e., bid 787 from A320) or is one offered options based on specific fleet needs at the time? I suppose you can only move to another fleet if a training slot exists.

A300skipper 24th Jun 2013 14:13

Iver,
Would it be any easier to change type if the training has not started yet?

Iver 24th Jun 2013 15:27

I do not work for QR so I do not know. I was asking questions related to existing pilots who want to swap fleets after their 3 year post-training period has expired.

ksh 25th Jun 2013 17:41

If somebody transfers from 320 to something better, that pilot wont be a Second Officer on that WB aircraft.

The airline would still need to hire Second Officers for that.

Obbie 26th Jun 2013 06:27

I'm afraid you don't understand how things work at Qatar Airways.
Second Officers are not a necessity anywhere in the fleet for operational
reasons. We don't have S/O cruise pilots like Cathay for example.
S/O is simply an indication of how inexperienced, and in some cases,
useless you are to the operation.

Simba1978 26th Jun 2013 07:44

Wow Mr. Obbie,
that was a very stupid answer ahahaha.
Did u born as a 4 stripes man?

Obbie 26th Jun 2013 08:17

I don't know about 4 stripes, but that's some pretty sweet level 4
English there my friend. Back to the books for you.

Hii..
I'm Fokker 50 F/O. .interviewed 10 months ago.and Accepted...now, swimming swimm in the Talent Pool....
Regarding your question...of course you have a good chance...especially with your experience .
Best of luck...

hi, Be more specific regarding S/O at QR, how it works ?

Airmann 26th Jun 2013 10:44

A S/O is simply a first officer in training. As soon as you complete your type rating and line training (40sectors FO Fast Track / 120 sectors for Normal) you become a F/O. It's a strange designation because its not actually a permanent position, just a temporary one until you get cleared on the line. They only difference is that your training is longer than someone who joins as an F/O and your salary less. As soon as you clear your training your an F/O. It shouldn't really matter whether you join as an F/O or FTSO except that there's such a training backlog at QR right now that instead of being an SO for 3/4 months you'll be one for a year or maybe more, and it can affect you financially if you have kids etc.

RK303 26th Jun 2013 11:05

Two type of S/O. Normal track and Fast track.
Maybe the Obbie answer refer to the Fast track S/O only. Fast track = Usually turboprop experienced pilot.

Normal S/O are fresh CPL with very very close relations with QR crews. Usually family relationship. So I don’t think they are there to compete with any experienced pilot, they are just given the chance to be kind of “successors”.

capfo 26th Jun 2013 17:32

Hi guys;
Anyone knows if QR is plannig to hire non type rated drivers again?? Where can apply TP captains to fly a  jet?!

ksh 26th Jun 2013 17:57

Sir,

With no disrespect to you. No one was born with Flying experience, we all start with an empty logbook. Everybody has there own struggle and there own fight.

The SO might be of Zero necessity but still the company hires them, that is the reason I asked. I, for sure dont know how things work at Qatar Airways. But now I know. Thank you...

davidsata 27th Jun 2013 05:14

Does anybody knows something about the PAT?

I have heard that it is gone now.
