Some questions about Qatar (QR)

I am an FO rated on the B777 and got an invitation to Doha.
I searched the forum but did not found any information about the following questions:

1. How many OFF days in a row can I expect each month ?
I heard some rumors about 5-6 days in row and maybe more in the future.
Is it possible to leave Doha during this days ? Is there any rule when to be back to Doha (i.e. 1 day before, etc)

2. In general, how about the roster for an FO on the B777 ?
many short flights ? how many off days in total, etc.

3. I am currently living in a city which is just 3.5h away from Doha and served on a daily basis. I do not want to bring my family to Doha. Do you think it is possible to go home between long-haul flights for just 1-2 days ? Are there any restrictions from Qatar ? I heard I need a permit to leave the country ?

4. How long will it take to get on the left seat on the 777 for someone who is joining now ?

5. What do you think in general. I am currently flying for a company which gives me about 12-15 OFF days where 10 days are in a row. I am flying just long-haul or ultralong-haul with on average 3 flights per month with about 70-80 hours. Life-work balance is good but money is bad.
Do you recommend Qatar or do you advise to stay where I am ?

Thanks alot for your help

level_change 1st Jan 2016 14:33

10 days off in a row on longhaul per month at home , how much are you paying them ? ;))

Medical Question

Hi everyone, I have recently offered a job as a captain in Qatar airways and I am really concerned about the medical. The thing is that I have to resign from my current job in order to start the process of the medical etc. Since I was a kid I had latent tuberculosis which means that it was never an active disease and I was totally immunized through treatment. In Europe this is not a problem with the medical. I have read that the GAMCA medical is really strict with TB. Do I have any chances of being accepted or not?
Thanks!

LZ-DOC 2nd Jan 2016 03:27

Commuting from the Gulf is difficult if not impossible...
They do not give you a COMMUTING contract, like some companies in the Far East.
Even if today you find an opportunity to commute, tomorrow it might not be there, so I would not bet on it.
IMHO

Toto737NG 2nd Jan 2016 05:33

just the truth !!

Hi Capt.
First let me tell you, I applied to QA some years ago and they really want to know your real medical condition. Any omission of information can let you out of the game.
My best recommendation, tell them the truth and get all the paperwork to show them you are fine and without the TB.
You will be fine for sure!!
By the way, are you Type Rated in the Qatar position offer?? And when did you start the process? Thanks, it's just to check if the line is moving up. :)
All the best for you!!

Nick2012, if you are UK based, there is an AME at Stansted, Peter Orton, who can issue Qatari Class I medicals. A chest x-ray is required.

Maybe invest a bit of cash first before resigning?

I think nick is talking about the medical commission check to get his residence permit.

To be honest I have no idea about this issue, have a medical check comming up for my spouse will ask them if I remember.

Otherwise I suggest you to just send them an E-mail nick and ask.

Greetings and best of luck

nick2012 2nd Jan 2016 14:03

Also I read somewhere that in the case you have a scar in the X-ray, even if the disease is not active and even if you had the treatment etc they will not accept you in Qatar for residence visa. Is this true ?

WrldWide 3rd Jan 2016 00:35

not true. some scarring was present on mine, they just had me retake and all was ok.

Hi guys, happy new year for everyone!
Do you know when does QA will start calling Direct Entry Capts from the Holding Pool?? Or any estimate?
Or how is the situation down there in Doha?
I've been holding since Feb 2015, and there is not much more fuel to go.
I'm a B737 current Capt by the way!
Take care guys, and be safe!
🛫

Southpole 3rd Jan 2016 07:48

It can be a case by case evaluation, but the airline has nothing to do with this process... It is mentioned that if you have some "spots" on your x-rays you are not accepted, but than there are doctors assessing your situation.

It is a limit situation, you could be rejected or pass..

Qatar airways has officially revised the 12 months to 18 months from interview date. God bless the HR. Brilliant news received by email.

Cheers

Now we can expect 18 months instead of the 12 initially.
And we can assure we are considered to continue our processes.

So people are in the holding pool since April then. I had a friend who did his interview in March and joined in Aug. 8 months in the line looks like from here on

foswillruletheworld 8th Jan 2016 16:26

Has anyone heard any rumour that Ldggrup is mentioning?
13% of pay raise? I hardly doubt it, because Qatar is already offering the best package there is in th region. But if they to it, they probably will have the best package in the world... Any reality in that?

A320 Driver 8th Jan 2016 18:31

Has anyone already done the new online psychometric test?

Are they exactly the same in the prep course?

Many tks

casablanca 8th Jan 2016 19:26

The pay raise rumor is not true.....at least no rumors here about it.

Hey everyone,

Does someone know how many SO are in the holding pool ?
Is there any SO who left the pool to join who could give an idea of their past interview date ?
Thanks, safe flights

Holding pool

Hi guys,

I know a guy he did his interview in 2nd week of March and joined in Dec.

Also another guy did in june and joined in june itself ( urgent requirement abd he didn't had any notice to serve)

So I believe pool was created from April.

Hello guys,

A Friend passed First week of April Started second week of November.

I ask all of YOU IN TALENT POOL if you could please state your pass date so we can create a kind of time list.

I PASSED LAST WEEK OF JUNE.

737SFP 12th Jan 2016 11:31

April 28th DEC B787.

freedomflyer 12th Jan 2016 12:33

NTR or TR???

did my NTR 2nd week of June 2015 and after a bit of back and forth with paperwork put in the pool in Sept.

Toto737NG 12th Jan 2016 12:50

I was in March

Hi guys! How you doing??
Well let me tell you about my case and some friends coming from the 737NG.
We applied since December 2014 and we did the interview the first week of March as DEC.
We were approved around March 15th.
Until today we got the same mails as many of us here about the Holding Pool and the new 18 months revision.
Couple friends on the line assure me the B787 it's been slowly as DEC.
The B777 has more afluency in the movements.
There are as well many moves from the right seat to the left side in the fleets.
So I believe this huge pool have many people probably since December 2014 or January 2015 something around!
And the reasons are many as well.
And also, the trainings supposed to be full too with more than 50 pilots p/month on type.
Hopefully my review helps others!
Be safe guys!! 🛫

Airbus FO

Hi Just wondering whether an Airbus Second Officer with a full type rating is eligible to apply for the Airbus First Officer position or do you need to be operating as a first officer ??

mamad 14th Jan 2016 15:12

Critical thinking

Hi guys

Anybody could point out a good material to prepare/get an idea about the critical thinking and inducive reasoning test ?

Thanks in advance

Ldggrup 15th Jan 2016 13:07

Walk in interview in Singapore..

Walk in interview in Singapore.. They are recruiting and we all are waiting.. This could be a good news??

Obbie 15th Jan 2016 13:17

More likely bad news for people currently swimming in the pool.

Road shows in Singapore and Johannesburg to go fishing for typed
and curent pilots recently made redundant in those areas.

If hired they will normally bypass the pool and go straight to line training.

casablanca 15th Jan 2016 15:04

What pilots are being made redundant in Singapore? What fleet?

JGSE 15th Jan 2016 15:25

No pilots made redundant recently in Singapore

isapilot 16th Jan 2016 22:54

Neofj:

You will need to be operating as a FO.
