Licencing requirements in UAE- from UK
Just a query as I am joining EK in a couple of weeks and when it comes to getting letters confirming licence, type and instrument rating validity from the UK CAA I'm having a few problems that maybe some fellow Brits who've made tha exchange can advise me with.
Mainly the problem being that the UK CAA will not certify the type and instrument ratings in my licence - standard practice they say - only the actual licence validity. Also they will not certify EACH page of my licence and apparently the UAE GCAA accepts the UK licence without any problems. Is this true ?
Any advice would be VERY welcome as I don't wish to turn up in DXB and encounter admin problems.

Yep no probs with a Brit licence, only UAE airlaw (done in company time) needed for conversion. To be honest they take most ATPL's, if you get through EK selection your licence will be OK.

Well Congratulations on joining EK!
Just a quick question, your profile indicates you are an Airline Captain presumably employed at the moment. Why would you leave a job in the UK to fly for EK as a first officer? Apparently a minimum of 4 years before you can expect to be considered for a command.
The UAE will issue a licence based on your UK licence after taking an air law exam, nothing to be concerned about.

For your info, I joined EK about 6 months ago, had a CAPT jet job (>40T) back in Europe untill I joined EK....and no, I don't regret it, very happy so far!
By the way, time to command in the last couple of years was never more than 3 years for guys with the minimum 6000hrs! Accelerated command is 2 years for guys with the suffucient command time on jets ( believe > 20T).
Which company is giving a wide-body command within 2 or 3 years???
There will defenitively be some accelerated commands in 2003.
I think, as said so many times before, that giving up a captain job, is purely up to the individual. I personally never had problems with it. The captains so far were 99% great...

As to why I'm leaving a jet command (as V1GO > 40t), well just look out of the window as another dank, dark, wet, miserable day dawns over Blighty. Add to that the overcrowded roads, massive rates of tax, crap schools for my children. Need I go on ?
I have to say I'm really looking forward to getting started in a couple of weeks, definately worth leaving a command for.

Just wait until you get stuck in the 20km traffic jams along the Sheik Zayed highway, or the usual bad traffic across either of the two bridges, or through the tunnel. And if you are just joining now, you have the joys of the shopping festival to contend with....
However, you are right about the other things, that's for sure!
Bit cold at the moment, almost had to put a long sleeved shirt on, but I braved it........
