Post Qatar Airways Update

Qatar Airways have just introuduced another Airbus A300-622R to the fleet. The aircraft is registered A7-AFB, and follows the registration sequence of the A300 fleet already on lease.

The fleet therefore currently comprises:-

A300-622R
A7-ABN (3 class config.)
A7-ABO (ditto)
A7-ABV (ditto)
A7-ABW (ditto)
A7-ABX (2 class config.)
A7-ABY (2 class config.)
A7-AFA (2 class config. painted all white - ex CityBird / ex Qatar)
A7-AFB (2/3 class config. ?)

A320-200
A7-ABR
A7-ABS
A7-ABT
A7-ABU
A7-ADA
A7-ADB
A7-ADC

A319CBJ
A7-HHJ

A330-200
A7-ACA
A7-ABB
A7-ACC (Due Jan 2003 - registration assigned)
A7-ACD (Due Feb 2003 - registration assigned)

There is also consideration being made to lease (on an interim basis) additional A330 capacity. This was initially rumored to be from Aer Lingus, Dublin. However, latest suggestion is that the capacity will come from SriLankan!!!! (EK - in a round about way - leasing to QR!!!!! Who would have thought it!) I believe that this may be a wet lease, since QR currently have some ongoing issues in training and placing sufficiently trained Cabin Crew on line. There are currently 2 batches of new CSD's in training at the present. This comprises an in-house promotion batch and an additional batch of direct entrants from Ansett / Australia.

The next batch of CSD's will be on line on Sunday, 29th September.

Initially, most will be deployed on the A300 fleet, progressing to both types (A300 / A330) in November 2002.

a300man

1. there is no passenger a300-600 in QA with the reg of A7-AFB.

2. there is no a330 in QA with the reg of A7-ABB.

3. A7-ACC and A7-ACD are not due until april.

FYI AFB is the first freighter, due early next year....and the new a300 is AFC.

seeing as you are always so accurate with your details, i figured you wouldn't want to start slipping now.

Hi UTRF.

Thanks for the corrections -

A330 A7-ABB - was a typing error. I meant to type ACB.

Note your comments regarding A300 regn. AFC. My apologies for this error. Was based on info given to me. Is this a/c 2 or 3 class config?

New A330's ACC and ACD - I am "assured" by both Company and Supplier that the delivery of these two machines has been brought forward to Jan and Feb 2003 respectively. QR has negotiated advance delivery terms with Toulouse, apparently....

However, if I am wrong (or have been given "duff" information), then I apologise. No harm intended.

Nightbird - hey man. Sorry. I have now cleared out my "inbox" of unwanted or actioned mail. Please now send me your message/query. Best regards.

Hello A300Man,

Keep the news coming and just ignore what Ken is saying. On the subject of leasing in SriLankan equipment that sounds strange since UL are actually short of aircraft and are looking for more. If they lease out one of their planes it would mean a drstic reduction in their schedules especially since they just recently added a few routes and are in the process of introducing more flights to India and Europe. Currently the only A330 capacity I think is available is from BD, EI, Khalifa and ex-SN.

I think from the ones above BD's A330-200 would work best for QR because of the seating and availability. EI, Khalifa and the ex-SN aircraft are A330-300 that would mean a capacity jump over the A330-200.

I have also heard the same on the delivery of the A330-200's and I have also heard that at least one of the next batch of A330-200's will be in a 2-class layout. Can anyone confirm that?

UTRF,

I was told the same regarding the registrations of the A300-600R from the member "mafibacon". Do you know anything on the subject of the retirement of the A300-600R? I have been told by QR that by the end of 2005 all A300-600R's (PAX) would've left the fleet. QR would need to order more widebodies to take the roles of the AB6.

Thank you both for the information and please keep us updated in the future

QR - what's the point?

Nice to hear all these news about QR's growth and capacity increase.

But honestly is it all worth the way staff is leaving? QR now does not have a ground services manager, no airport network wide manager, no planning manager, no AGM and now... the top man at cargo is rumoured to have left or resigned.

From my inside sources, more area managers have left.. so what is the actual point in leasing new aircraft when you have a very very HIGH staff turnover, commercial dropping yields, adding capacity?

I am also told that the commercial man wants to add frequencies to KTM despite safety concerns from flt ops. Apparently he is of the view that profit is more important than the increase in ASRs.

It is more like a recruitment agency than an airline. And now I hear the the HR manager - parves is taking money to offer employment to cabin crew from India.

In the end QR will have aircraft as tangible assets but not the professionalism of EK, GF, UL or even MEA.

Hope all works out well in the future!

Cherokee,

I must live around the corner from you in Najma!!!!! However, I agree with some of your comments above. I too am concerned about the high staff turnover....it is phenomenal and I have always commented about this since I joined PPrune way back.

Shiny new airplanes arent everything. Correct. I am somewhat saddened at the current situation regarding the staff turnover and morale. But, I have my own thoughts on this and believe that this is something that a certain short-sighted individual relishes by showing that he doesn't particularly care about all his management leaving.

As a passeneger though, I enjoy the company and want it to succeed.

Kenoco (Christine!) - I am sure that this is not your real name, since I don't know anyone called Christine who just left the Cabin Crew.......anyway.......I took your advice and am heading off to get out a bit more and re-charge my batteries. this time tomorrow I should be in Male (Inshallah) - flying of course on, you've guessed it, Qatar Airways.............who else. Thanks for your concern.
