Harry, I always used to check first, if unable with the disclaimer 'it depends on how much they have to do post landing'. If flight was late, never. Now I don't bother after getting yelled at more than a few times for even daring to suggest and 'Don't I know the OM-A' well actually no because until about 3 months ago we had zero access to it except the copy kept in the flight deck.

Now it's all about keeping my head below the parapet until I can punch out in a few months...

From the article:

“They may be the prettiest in the sky but on ground and behind closed doors the company is so damn ugly.”
Well, duh. I feel for the girl having her dream ended, but you dance with the devil, and all that..

I brought countless pax into the flight deck for visits and pics on the ground. It was pretty much the best part of the job. Seeing a child light up at the chance was worth far more than worrying about the infinitesimally small chance of losing some stupid job. It was a bit of humanity in an amoral, remorseless machine of a company. If I'd been sacked for doing so I would have considered it a badge of honour but I never worried about it for a second and never had an issue. Actually, I never wasted any time thinking about it whatsoever until now. Just lucky I guess?

Spending your life attempting to interpret manuals in the most conservatively stifling way to "protect" oneself - no matter how you rationalize it "necessary" - isn't my idea of healthy employ.

I am.

I'm not going to let someone I've never met post a picture they took, with their comments good or bad on social media...especially when its forbidden by the company I work for and it could cost me my job.

Go ahead if you want...

Lucky I guess! You just need to get the wrong person on the wrong day, as several of our colleagues have found out.

I too used to enjoy the cockpit visits, even taking pictures for the pax and putting the hats on them etc... it's how I got my start in aviation (well, the love came before that but the cockpit visits as a kid- and even spending 4 hours in-flight up there pre 9/11- certainly made it more real for me.)

I just don't really bother any more because now it's just a job. Hence the desire to punch out for clearer skies

Back to the original topic: I've noticed a definite increase in the selfie culture and mobile phone addiction. It borders on the ridiculous. CC disappearing for an hour at a time into the lavs on the wifi leaving the rest to pick up the slack. Ditto for being in the galley having photo ops instead of actually doing work... Can't really blame the company for wanting to control it. Really is ridiculous some days. I guess the price increase on the wifi will take care of that one... (Maybe it was the real motivation) As for the injury, well she's not the first and probably wont be the last to get the 'contract not renewed' due to long term sick/injury. Why would they keep staff on when they are not obligated to in the probationary period? This is what happens when people don't come in here with their eyes open. Most get blinded by the 'glamour' and fail to do due diligence prior arrival.

Outlaw, you remind me of a story a female CC once told me, of finding a photo of herself with a pax online accompanied by a blurb all about his 'new English girlfriend who works as a stewardess in Dubai' how proud he is, blah blah blah... she took a quick photo with him as he was disembarking!

Imagine that combined with their self conceived "disparaging remarks" from the flight deck.

The is a digital stamp on every photo!!

And remember, you're guilty until proven sacked (fired)..just like her!

As Humphrey Bogart said...I stick my neck out for nobody!

No issues with visits on the ground. 8.3 is called "Flight Procedures" and is derived directly from CAR-OPS 1 and only applicable once the doors are closed

Personally I am happy for passengers to have pictures taken but I don't want to be in them; why ruin a good memory
