Logging of Hours with 'Heavy Crew'

I am curious to find out the procedures for carriers in the ME when it comes to logging of flight hours with Heavy Crew.

I had heard some procedures may have changed over recent time for the likes of EK, so I thought other threads on this topic may be a little dated. Whether or not what the rumour mill is sending out is true, who knows!?

For a 4 pilot crew on a ULR flight for example, what hours do the operating crew log for the outbound leg, and also what do the relief crew log?

Is it then reversed for the way back?

Does the nominated PIC always log 100% of the time even when resting?

In my case the FO's are logging 50% of the time when operating a flight with 4 crew, whereas the Captains log 75% of the total time over a two sector trip (as they will log 100% when operating and 50% when relief crew).

Any thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

He is still the commander when resting right? So he logs the lot. The factored timing for augment crews is only used for FTL reasons. The can squeeze greater than just 100hrs per 28 days or greater than 900hrs per year out of you. They do however count all of the time towards upgrade requirements, pay etc.
The OMA states that all time in Ek is considered hard time. There is no mention of early parole though.

Hi Don,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I agree about the Captain logging all of the flight time and so he should.

It's interesting that EK count all the time towards command though, as thats what started my curiosity in this. I am currently flying pretty much 100 hours per month, but logging anywhere between 55-65 of them, as I cannot count the hours towards an upgrade, although I have seniority.

Whereas we are hiring FO's that have previously logged 100% of the time in the bunk and in the seat, and thats counted towards command without question.

Thanks again for your reply

If you are a required crew member for the flight you must log the time. If not the flight was illegal.
Who is the company to tell you you can not log the required time?

Logging of Hours with 'Heavy Crew'

My company only recognises 'time in seat' as hours that we can put in our log book. So if I was to get the company to stamp/authorise my flying hours, these are the only hours they recognise.

So when it comes to FTL's we fly over 100 hours per 28 days as long as our time in seat does not exceed that, the same goes for 900/year.

As a FO on a 4 pilot crew, we basically log 50% of the outbound sector and the same on the return. For Captains, the nominated PIC logs 100% of the flight, and 50% when he is the relief captain.

I understand, if not agree with the companies stance regarding this for productivity etc, however it's slowing down building hours for an upgrade. And there is a little injustice when new hires have logged 100% of their previous bunk time and the company simply accepts this without question. Completely not the new hires fault though.

It's nice to see that EK recognises all this time towards upgrades which seems fairer.

Logging of Hours with 'Heavy Crew'

The cabin crew are generally pretty thin here and must meet certain BMI criteria year on year.

I expect it'll be difficult to find any "heavy ones" to spend any amount of time with.
