Mana, you are a troll. Either contribute to the subject or go back to whatever lala-land you live.
Not everyone's first language is English, but they still have to live in an environment that allows schools, retailers and landlords to increase fees to their liking, with the implicit blessing of the authorities, but the salaries just remain stuck. In EK's case with the blessing by the same owners/authorities.
It is only fair to raise this issue here on pprune because many fellow aviators seek advice and information to make a difficult decision. The information they receive from recruiters and roadshows are not entirely correct. They might have been some months ago, but they deliberately lag to lure people to the ME.
It has reached the point that a FO with 2 children at schooling age can barely cover the total schooling fees and the needed increased medical cover for his family.
Unfortunately today that has become a fact!

@ Mana:
I can see you have nothing interesting to say here...
Is that because you get bored at this point? Nothing else to do in your life than writing this and spend your time to teach us nothing?
In fact... maybe you're just nothing, aren't you?

short flights long nights
I think FlyWild has a good point. Prices in Dubai are going up and up, wages are static and basically have been for several years. Couple that with the lack of Bonus payments and it makes things tough

The ME forum is not just for the privileged EK pilot, many people work for other operators and are not paid as handsomely as the flyboys and girls there.
there are many in this forum who are not tech crew and they get so much less.
Rents have increased exponentially and lets just be sure to say my and others pay have not.
If you are relying on a bonus to make ends meet then you are really in trouble.
The expo will be a blessing for the UAE, but an absolute curse on the working class here.
If you think rents have gone up now what do you think will happen if they get the Expo?
Many I know are already thinking of bailing from the UAE as it's just not worth it, rent makes up more and more of expenses every year.
Get a rent rise and then get a DEWA rise as well.

I think I am the exception rather than the rule, but I have just renewed my rental agreement for my 5th consecutive year in the same place and am still paying the same as when I moved here just over 4 years ago!!

I cannot believe I am defending mas but.... that is about the only thing mas has ever posted which comes close to being worthwhile - five words and still needed editing??
Anyway hang in there, camel. This place is a house of cards powered by greed and when the wind shifts it will collapse just like it did before. Then rent will be at rock bottom and you can "average down".

If the 2020 expo comes to Dubai then watch those rents SOAR! (house prices too). November the 17th is the announcement date I think.
Locals do not find it so expensive here, they get free land and other free benefits including a UAE Local Living Allowance. Ermm I live here too, can I have the local living allowance too please?

The Rental Calculator does you absolutely no good when moving into an apartment. If the average for that area is 100k but the owner wants 160k there is nothing you can do. The only people it protects are those already living in a unit. If you have a good price locked in the landlord can still kick you out by saying they want to move into the unit. Give you 1 year notice, then once you leave there is no way to make sure they were honest. They can just put it back on the rental market with a 100% price increase.
There is bound to be another crash. But it's difficult to predict when. Be careful if you're planning on purchasing.

To kick you out it is 1 year notice from the end of the lease period, not 12 months notice. They could I guess give you the notice when you sign the next year lease I guess but that is worst case scenario. They have to notify you via registered mail with the official form which is registered with Ejari. They then can't rent it out for 2 years. Unless they are totally legit, it is very difficult to kick you out. Nothing like it was a couple of years ago.
Most people are not aware of the new rules both tenants and land lords. I heard of a person whose land lord sent them a text and said they were raising the rent by 10% on that very day and they needed to give them new cheques immediately. For increases, if you are within 25% of the average for your area there is ZERO increase allowed on your rent. The RERa/Ejari are actually very good at dealing with this stuff. Law 26 of 2007 has been amended and the changes all favoured tenants.

You could always move down the road to the "other" company! No sign of a crash, decent house prices, decent living, better health care. And it's cheaper! If not by much!

Oh I didn't know there was a no poach in place. Does anyone know how long you will have to wait before you could move if you left EK?
I think between QR and EK is a year?
