Hmmm. Timing is about the only good thing about this pairing. I'm sure the crew will be praying for nothing to go wrong on the ground with the temperamental 345. Best of luck out there!

Welcome to the world of FZ pilots. Do your homework on this one, especially the approach for runway 11. For me its the most demanding of airports that we fly into. Terrain, weather, military VFR traffic everywhere. Good luck guys !

p.s We do three flights a day with full loads on all three so I can understand why Emirates want a piece of it.

Leelo and Stich! LOL @ ironbutt...

Actually, HIGEL does it for me!

Spelling inaccuracy aside, Dr. Izzie Stevens sets off my pocket rocket every time!

To give you a taste of what seven3heaven was alluding to (above), here's a video of yours truly doing a visual approach to R11 (the additional notes on the YouTube page, plus those embedded within the video itself, will hopefully go someway towards explaining it):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8HWGQ7Y2n8

And, as a final word of advice, (imho) NEVER EVER ATTEMPT a 'CIRCLING' approach (under TERPS... as shown on the LIDO chart) from off an instrument approach towards R29 around to R11.

Ps. (hence the edit) here's a take-off from R11 (using full power!):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ5f0wMoA8E

Both videos can be viewed in 720HD if so selected.

Talk about contrast! One day you fly the EK A340 to the Seychelles and the next day you fly to Kabul. Certainly get some "varied" flying experience....

Great Video..

It looks like we can safely say Asiana could never operate in there.

That's very impressive, but wouldn't have been half as dramatic if you'd put Justin Bieber on the soundtrack instead of The Prodigy.

Not a problem, visual into Kabul.

Flew for many years into Sanaa, elev 7300' with a DHt of 12000' sometimes, and in the afternoon with TS ringing the surrounding hills.
Best was a visual approach over head airdrome to join the circuit. IFR was over the hills in and out of towering Cu and around CBs.

Sana'a and Kabul two different animals...hills immediately to the north obstruct the pattern...ATC in the past prohibited visual maneuvering over the city...maybe that's changed...(watch out for the aerostat)....don't compare the two Sana"a...Kabul...operated to both many times...not saying visual appriach to RWY 11 at KBL is impossible...many operators do it...but not even comparable to Sana"a

Beautiful country - but has a few problems

Landing will look good for the pax on the ICE nosewheel display!
A friend flew for a certain Sharjan carrier into Kabul - expect to have K9 friends in your aircraft during the turnaround and if "Striker" is departing ahead of you, suggest you remove your headsets due to the interference.
