EK...The Good Things
So here it is, a thread where we can post all the good things about EK and why its a good place to be. This includes its host city as well.
Try to post with honesty and keep the emotions out of it (if possible).
The idea here is to take a look at what the experience has given us from a positive perspective. Its my hope that anyone looking to come to DXB will weigh the expressions here as well as those in the "EK...The Less Than Good Things" when they make their choice.
The idea is to share our experiences both good and bad with those who have not had the privilege of out collective experiences in a thread that bears a factual title.

Not true, Alan makes it clear during his welcoming hour to the pilot: it is not because the locals can have a beard that we can!
We can not keep a 3 days beard (not even a 2 or 1 day).
The story says that he used to check the cockpit and if we shaved!

I really don't understand why people hate Emirates, I think they're an excellent airline and Dubai is undeniably an amazing city... Strange, the average travelling public love Emirates and Dubai, yet most (not myself) aviation enthusiasts despise both...
Have you worked for them? Most of the passengers haven't, and are transient, rather than resident in Dubai, so they only get one view of things.

If you're 15, never worked in the airline industry, not a pilot, never lived in dubai and never worked for EK, then of course you don't understand why people have issues with EK and Dubai.

When the crew can manage to get off the aircraft 10 minutes after the last pax has left, instead of the 40 minutes it took last time at work, to be fair though it does take time to check ones FB, find ones crew bag, and search for ones ID

From my viewpoint, the positives about the EK/DXB experience has mainly been beneficial from a family perspective but only in some regards. It was not possible in my country to be able to make ends meet on one income and raise our family in a traditional way which meant having my wife stay at home with the kids while they were young. This was a mutual choice. In the early days, there was enough in my single income to do this. With the massive increase in cost of living, loss of profit share, massive increases in schooling cost, DEWA cap, etc, it is not possible to do this now.
Getting out from the media bubble we lived in back home and actually experiencing the world as it really is certainly a positive as I can't stand being told how to think and what I should believe. I've met a hell of a lot of people, seen how and where they live day to day and have gained a great perspective of how lucky some are. Iv'e learned that there is "no free lunch" because someone less fortunate than you will have taken it from you. If you don't fight to keep what you (and those before you) have earned then others will take it from you in your apathy.
If you keep your nose clean, don't scratch any paint and show up on time then you can have a reasonable expectation of keeping your job in the long term and the pay is always in the account by close of business on the 26th of the month.
DXB is a great place if you are single and under 40. It is a great place if you enjoy shopping and the beach or surfing the net without all that pesky porn.
Everything is available to do, IE sailing, old cars, ultra lights, hiking, biking etc but not with the same vigor, convenience and ease as you might have in your previous country and this detracts form the experience.
The villa, being driven to work and that sort puts you in a position of being directly in the control in the company so I don't see them as a plus. Having your own house is a plus in some regards but who has 1.5 million AED in cash for the down payment?

Oh c'mon FED. Give the crew a break, yeah it does take a while for the whole lot to get the bag and get off etc but at the same time if a headset is left on a seat the sfs will get an email, if things are not put away properly the seniors get an email. Oh and they can't start to do things earlier because heaven forbid 20 mins before landing a customer of High Value wants breakfast because he's slept, the company expects them to give it.
I know, coming through immigration at outstation other crews seem to be about 10 mins behind the pax that have just deplaned from that aircraft but the crew especially in J have a lot to do post landing.
I'm sure you are just making a point though right

Being a first officer here is actually OK. You get what you bid for, at least I do, you get most of your leave and you get pay raises. Very few F/Os will work more than 800 hours a year.
As a captain it seems very different. If I'm to believe my colleagues to the left you won't get what you bid for, you can forget about leave when you want it ie. summer, christmas. If you are a senior captain you have only gotten 0,5% worth of pay raise in the last two years and very few captains will have a roster with less than 92 hours in a 31 day month.
So as a first officer you'll have trouble filling either of the famous buckets. As a captain you'll fill the both buckets in a much faster pace but at the moment I believe you'll fill the dirt bucket first....

Thanks Michael, absolutely correct. Cannot even collect the magazines prior to landing, in case they want to read it. Ibelieve most other airlines have the cabin appearance team do all this stuff. Again, a result of the schedule and push for OTP from the co mean the crew do it.

Food and drink before and during the flight. There is enough and generally the quality is good, choice is sufficient (at least on the T7).
Here EK gets good marks, hopefully it remains this way, on the freighter the first signs of erosion and money pinching shows.
