Had to laugh at this-
I've been here seven years. When I joined, posts here on PPRUNE said "What USED to be a great airline where nearly everybody was happy...."
WS, what YOU are unwilling or unable to understand is that perspectives get skewed by time and circumstance. In the big scheme of things, it is neither any better nor worse than it has been for most of it's existence.
Wnker, it seems you are either unable or unwilling to understand. Over the last 5 years what used to be a great airline where nearly everybody was happy

I have to say, I haven't been here for over 12 months yet and I'm on a dying fleet that's known as a haven of normality (on the fleet itself, at least...), but the people I fly with every day are just as pleasant and laid back as my old crowd, who made every day an enjoyable day. Sadly, it doesn't seem that the Boing or BUFF fleets are quite the same, but until I'm dragged onto one or the other (holding out for a direct transfer onto the 350...no laughing) I'm delighted to stay here in the land where CSR/ASRs are reserved for an actual event (full flap selected at 1495' anybody?!)...

No one on the mini bus can remember to fill in an ASR after landing from their fifth night turnaround in a row.
and fill it in online, while your there you can update your FB status "ASR filed" and EK IT security will pass it on to Flt Ops

Good things - many. Some in jest, some real.
1. I don't have sleepless nights about the possibility of my Airline going bankrupt.
2. The Sailing is far better here than in Switzerland - where my previous Airline went bankrupt.
3. Car Washes are cheap and a 5 AED tip is more than adequate.
4. I no longer have Nasal or Ear hair thanks to my Syrian Barber who pours hot wax in my orifices and removes the lot with a vigorous tug.
5. The VPN password is a secret so my children cannot access Porn. (I think)
6. The wife is happy with her life and her rather large vehicle, certainly one that could never fit in a car-park in our previous abode.
7. There are many many good professional people from different cultures and backgrounds.
8. I have learnt how to drive whilst wearing flip-flops.
9. I had a person from the RTA on the phone recently whose English was better than mine.
10. The kids' English has got a lot better and I can help them with their homework.
11. The EK Network is World-Class. Just a shame the flights are so full, it can be hard to get a seat which requires a left hand turn on entry to the aircraft
12. Etisalat fixed us up with Al Jazeera Sports in just 45 minutes when I realised Abu Dhabi HD had lost the English PL contract.
That's enough for now...
Bad things:
Thoughtless drivers.
Selfish people.
Utterly pointless bureaucracy like photocopying both sides of the kids' UAE ID cards, Visa and Passport photo page every year for the school.
Being treated like a child by certain people - you know who.
And...
What WILL the kids do when they become teenagers?? Shall we just get them CAT-As to BKK/HKG/IST once a month for some teenage fun? Right now the Sports keep them busy and active, I hope that continues.
