Thanks everyone so far for the advice.

PL - I do have the CX book, I will add that to my study regime. Thank you.

My quals: ~3000 TT, ATP with a Corp. Jet Type. Most of my time is SIC on CL-65 and BE-1900, I too have airline experience with multiple airlines. Along with the normal instructor time and piston time.

How long is the training bond for at QR? Minimum of 2 or 3 years? Sounds like most newhires will get the A320/A319.

Hi!

Newhires going to multiple airframes.

1st I heard of interviews outside of Doha. QR, Emirates getting more and more desperate, along with many of the contract/expat-hiring companies.

Thats a funny thing to say.. you dont really think just because it's the first you have heard of QA having a road show that it's never been done here before, do you?

QA has been doing road shows for years now, mainly concentrating on Asian / European areas with American / Canadian road shows only once or twice a year. The reason for coming to the US and Canada is obvious, many of the pilots in these areas are out of work and Desperate.
it's a well known fact that enticing someone to come to this part of the world to live and work is not easy, but it's much easier when you have no other choice, isn't it. QA and other carriers hunt where the hunting is good.. thats just the way it is.

Capt Krunch, I think this is more than a road show. I believe they are doing the full interview plus the sim in Mia. I don't know if they've done that before.

sorry, I generalized with regards to the word 'road show'.

Yes, they have done this on many occasions in the past. recently in Canada, as well as a few times in the UK, Singapore on a few occasions. Not to mention many other destinations as well. To be honest, this is nothing new.
it's mainly dependent on the overall cost and availability of resources. It's much easier than having an endless stream of candidates coming to Qatar as there are many other factors that come into play. Hotel availability (the country of often fully booked) QA Sim availability as well as issuance of Visitor Visa, and thats also not to mention space availability on our flights as most run quite full.

QR "Pilot Assessor"

Just finished (June 2) the screening at QR in Doha. They have a new "Pilot Assessor", a Yank, first name Carl. Former ABex, now over 65 and looking to hang on to fly a ferry flight once in a while.

Real bad news. Very condescending, mocks your answers, stops you in the middle of them. Did not ask a single question that I had seen on the forums here. All TMAT, and he is looking for somthing specific, not sure just what because he tanked 2 of the 3 of us that interviewed with him. (The other interviewers passed both of theirs.)

Good luck if Carl shows up in Miami, or you get him in Doha.

Emirates to recruit 700 pilots in next 18 months
By Murdo Morrison

After largely closing its doors to new recruits during the 2009 downturn, Emirates plans to hire more than 700 pilots over the next 18 months to support new routes and aircraft.
The airline has embarked on a recruitment roadshow that will take in much of Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. It kicked off on 4 June in Madrid, one of six new destinations this year. It has already begun services from Dubai to Tokyo and Amsterdam, with Prague, Baghdad and Dakar to follow.
Emirates - which has a 147-strong fleet with six aircraft due to arrive this year, part of 144 on order - traditionally recruits only first officers.
Capt Alan Stealey, divisional senior vice-president flight operations, says Emirates is recruiting at a time when much of the industry is cutting back. The airline recently took delivery of its ninth Airbus A380 and will accept number 10 within days.

Don't worry boys, if Carl says no, big rival down south has no choice but to say yes.

Carl's Questions

Carl asked me,
TMAT that you had a disagreement with another crew member, what you did, and how it turned out. (Not sure what he was looking for, he interrupted me numerous times during my answer with, "you're missing my point", and "I need more detail", then said, "let me read the question one more time" in a very condescending tone.)
TMAT that you heard something by actively listening, that no one else heard.
How do you do Team Building?
TMAT you had something occur that was completely outside your control.
TMAT you were not the team leader, but took it upon yourself to lead a team to do a task. (When I finished my answer, he actually rolled his eyes, and said, "well, I guess that was good enough.")
TMAT you had a disagreement with another crew member that turned out you were wrong, and what you did about it. (Again, no clue what he was looking for, kept interrupting me on that one as well.)

Hope that helps, and really hope you don't draw Carl for your interview.

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the sim evaluation in Miami. The sim briefing they send you has B777 and A330 information. However, the sim evaluation is on the A320. Will it be ok to just review the A330 stuff for the A320 sim eval.

thanks.

Skycraft,

Learn the 330 profiles as given, they work just great for the 320.....well, they did for me. The assessors will be looking for good CRM/two crew work and a steady improvement of performance throughout the detail, and be ready to deal with a 'minor' in flight emergency, I got APU fire.

Other than take off, setting around 50% N1 works for just about everything. It will all be raw data.

Good luck dude.

PL
