What's up Doc...Potty

Might be about time they changed the name of this thread? "Rak Airways finally airborne" isn't exactly apt for the current state of things.
How bout " The music has stopped" or " Elvis has left the building"

Riakar...Yep, still shaking the sand out of the creases (ever more numerous) at the end of each day. 2 yrs down at present location and counting.
Still propping up the far end of the bar in the village pub?

new title shound be ----down the pan

A renunion in the village pub would be a great idea, but will they allow the bring a bottle crew party.

Better be quick.

Perhaps book it for a private party, as the parting gift from Capt Potty.

As an aside, is 2 years the mandatory maximum period of employment in aviation these days..............

CEO Number .....(?). How many more to come?

By Joanna Hartley of Arabia Business on Sunday on 18 January 2009
RAK Airways plans to begin flying scheduled routes again in April after suspending flights and making 60 employees redundant last month, it was reported Sunday.
The airline, based in Ras al Khaimah, cut staff and terminated its regular service to Dhaka, Chittagong, Calicut and Colombo after seeing its fleet reduced from three aircraft to one, said Mouin Yassine, the airline’s new chief operating officer.
In the meantime, the airline has been operating on a charter-only basis, using its remaining Boeing 757-200 while simultaneously planning its scheduled relaunch to destinations such as Beirut, Brussels and Dusseldorf, according to Abu Dhabi daily The National.
We shut down operations in Dec. 11 and the last flight was Dec. 13,” said Mr Yassine. “One aircraft was flying after two aircraft had to be returned – one because of continual technical problems, the other because the lease contract had ended.”
The logistics and costs of operating an airline with just one aircraft are believed to have been major factors in the decision to shut down.
“In case of any problems, we would not have any other aircraft as back up. In order to avoid problems and [receive] a bad reputation for the company, it was better to stop,” he said.
To help it resume operations by April, the airline was in negotiations to lease and purchase up to four Boeing single-aisle 737s, which would also support its charter services, Mr Yassine added.
In addition, last year the airline ordered four new 737-800s which are scheduled for delivery in 2011.
Mr Yassine is the latest executive to man the helm at RAK Airways after the carrier lost four top executives in the span of 18 months.
The airline was created by the RAK government in 2005, at a time when regional airlines were flourishing due to an economic boom caused by the four-fold rise in oil prices since 2002. But, partly due to management instability, RAK Airways’ launch plans were delayed by more than a year, to mid-2007.
The airline, which carried about 125,000 passengers last year, according to RAK airport officials, is now battling a global slowdown in demand for air travel.
Although passenger traffic in the Middle East grew 5.6 percent worldwide in November, the single-digit growth reflects a “step-change from the double-digit expansion that characterised growth prior to the current financial crisis”, according to the International Air Transport Association.
The airline, which retains a staff of more than 70 employees, is making an average of five charter flights a week, primarily short-haul, regional flights within the GCC to destinations such as Muscat and Doha.
Our new schedules will include Beirut, Brussels and Dusseldorf,” Mr Yassine said. ”Once we get our [leased] 737-800, we hope that we will start.”

Brussels and Dusseldorf from RAK??? Is it any wonder there have been so many CEOs in a span of 18 months?

Who is doing

When it did not work flying eastbound.....why not try some westbound destinations. Honestly, where do they get the funding from to play around like this Will be interesting to see what the GCAA troops have to say. One requirement for keeping an AOC alive is to have Post Holders

What a winner RKT-DUS, it's a well worn path that one, can't possibly lose!! Westfalia must have loads of Yermans just lining up to go to RAK for some winter sun.

Not so sure 738 is right aircraft choice for this route either, that includes BRU. That's 2700 and 2800NM as the crow flies, 6 odd hours cooped up like a chicken in what I would assume is 'Y' class, someone isn't doing their sums.

Later.

Dont let Cpt Potty touch anything

I have heard that the 7 star hotel in RAK, has been put on hold by the big man.

The big man is not putting any more money into Capt's pocket, as all these investments are failing.

Perhaps the new route to Beirut, is the escape route.

New Hire at RAK Airways

A New Captain at RAK has been hired.

Captain Potty, has just completed his Type rating.

Yes that correct the "Favoured Leader" aka "the Captain" is now fully qualified to be at the helm.

Last one out please turn off the landing light.

windy.

ps the recent storms in RAK were not related to his rapid course completion, and were an fact an act of GOD.

wimpy windy

That's funny, maybe he should do like Comrade Kim or Hugo Chavez (there is more than a passing resemblance there actually) and make himself eternal capt, beloved of all the people and never needing to undergo a performance review, medical exam or line check ever again.

Even give himself a 5th stripe in recognition of his achievment.

Rock on with your bad self

5 stripes

I think Sporty sells these.

I wonder who conducted his TR ride.

I would be prepared to offer at least one brown nosed gentleman, who "was" still owed money by him, following his enforced transition to CAE as an Instructor.

On a similar subject CAE are upgrading this Hawker Instructor to a Gulfstream instructor.
The only problem is that in his file he is shown as imcompetent in a Gulfstream. Copies of his sim assesments are in ciculation, on a similar web platform.
I believed that as a student you could only ever learn as much as your instructor was able to pass on.

I hope FSI get the sim in FAB soon.

(finally airborne)

Are they still airborne, or is the mismanaged airline finally grounded by the GCAA or due to lack of Dhirams
