did they get the AOC returned

Was the AOC re issued......

Paradise lost: you crack me up, that was perfect.

In relation to another thread re behaviour in UAE: holding hand between men is legal, but not between men and women, so a gay couple may hold hands in public but a straight couple can not.

I am at last getting the hang of the middle east.

Lastly big winds last night in Dubai......mane me feel at home.

So far they have no AOC. Problem is they operated flights after the AOC was cancelled. From what they say the latest RAK boss really likes to cut safety and corners. Who needs an AOC! Are there any staff still there or did they all have the sense to leave?

dont need an AOC anyway

The GCAA is so understaffed that thay ignore all reports of illegal chartering of aircraft.

They (GCAA) as in RAK case, must be aware of the (ATM) movement.

There are still staff there, but I suspect not many.

A waiter in the airport restaurant, told me that they will be operational at the end of March (2009).

The airport is a graveyard.

The web site, has never worked, or been updated. But then neither has the Potty shop web site.

Just how much money has been invested in the airport, RAK, and DANA. ?

All to enable Capt Potty to operate his slave ships.

Capt Potty has his TR on the Hawker, and is planning to fly the Gulfstream next, with his personel trainer.

Is this operational yet.

I saw the golf ball, looking nice just off the truck road.

@ RAK Airlines

Good news for everyone. The airlines have revised their plans and will be starting flights once again from the first week of May or June and on proposal are also Charter flights taken up by the airlines including private flights too, surprisingly.
Lets see where this phase takes the airline. RAK airport is also scheduled for more taxiways and a parking bay to accomodate more of the freighter aircrafts and general aviation aircrafts coming in and out of RAK.

Good news...hmmm

I wouldn't get my turban in a twist just yet. They've had more rejuvenation plans and CEO's to go with them than most folks have had hot dinners.

With the global slump, tourism is down and I'm sure RAK is feeling the squeeze as much if not more than some of the more attractive hot spots around the region. I wonder how much a night in the Al Hamra Fort or Hilton beach club is at the moment.

The flight school is also rumoured to be a big flop, aircraft choice turned out to be poorly researched, no airline contracts, dwindling finances and now looking for a buy out.

The freigher traffic only brings in landing and parking charges and doesn't do a whole lot for the local economy save for a few nights in a hotel and the kitchen appliances that the Russkies buy at the local Carefour.

Taking all that into consideration AND based on the past 3yrs of close to zero progress, most people familiar with the set up down there would be reluctant to proclaim a new beginning.

Be interesting to see what potty does next though. Keep playing that piano doc.

Hustle on

Spot on Shinkju. Those who believe RAK Airways will emerge from the ashes in glory do better bet on another horse. Nothing, and I repeat nothing of what they have done over the past three years have turned into something. And interestingly enough, another RAK outfit named Sama Air/Silver Air (pick the name that is correct today) have problems keeping their folks in the cockpit due to not so brilliant management. Sounds like something pprune people in the know would find familiar when it comes to airlines from the northern Emirates. Ok, so all the danes, with close to zero management experience from any country outside Denmark, are managing the outfit from Dubai, but that seems not to convince the pilots to stick to them. Costly, is the name of the game, and I would think the Great Dane in Sama/Silver can look for another location to manage. No return on investments is not what the owner can live with too long.

Observation:
Is it just me or does the UAE seem to attract more than it's fair share of failed airline management from other countries? It seems that managers who have failed in their own countries and would never get another 'senior' position back in their own countries suddenly pop up somewhere in the UAE. They then make a real mess of whatever job they are employed to do in the UAE and then disappear leaving a wake of destruction behind them, seems like RAK is a real magnet for them.

Have I missed something or what

I was under the impression that in UAE you need more than one aircraft to hold an AOC.

I was under the impression that to hold EROPS certification you required a demonstrated history of safe operation, and engine reliability.

Blade Pilot, the UAE is full of those who have failed in their own country, perhaps thats why I am here.

Anyway I wish RAK Intergalactic Airways, all the sucess that they deserve.

I understand that Capt Potty, will start his Gulfstream training soon.

Why not just go directly on to the heavy stuff.?

More RAK news

Had coffee with the big man last night the crown prince himself.

He was pleased that the new restructured RAK airways was operating the Kinshasa flights, as he has lots on money down there.
He also was concerned that Dana is loosing as much money each month as RAK used to lose, now this is after the major shake up 6 mths ago.
So perhaps the Turks will depart soon.
RAK has a female local pilot, who currently is so far behind the aircraft that she does not bother to report for duty. But then she can not be fired.

Then I went to pub, and met my mole.

He was so drunk that all I could get from him was the Baskin Robins in the mall is now open, so all managemet meetings will be held there, at leastthat is not bugged yet.
The middle management is still covering their a$$ (s), so nothing has changed.

off to the beach now, so take care, glf

Things you should know about Ras al Khaimah part 1

Things you should know about Ras al Khaimah .....
1. George Mason University in RAK has too few students...too little income...
2. Close George Mason and...... wait for it..... open another university called The American University of Ras al Khaimah. That ought to do it.
3. Open another University called the Rak University of Medicine, I wonder if there will be any students going to that one ?
4.Start to open a primary and junior school with all staff in situ and being paid, then discover that the organiser of aforesaid school in in jail for possible, alleged financial irregularities. ( oh yes, the fees were to be around 60,000 AED per annum ) Check out Frank Koie's La Hoya Bay....
then close school and send all staff home, what was the tab on that one ??
5. Open a flying training establishment at a cost put at 7 mill US, then after a few months find out, what ?? not enough students ?? can't be, not possible.....
I know, lets shut it down/sell it/otherwise dispose of the place putting a lot more people out of work. Contracts of employment/treating people decently/doing the right thing/labout laws/labour court ??? what the hell are they ??

You've got to hand it to old Potty, he knows how to do things.....

with thanks to the EPFL....

"
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our Emirate to benefit from the EPFL’s international reputation and its expertise in academics and technology transfer,” said Khater Massaad, RAKIA’s CEO. Mr. Masaad is a Swiss citizen who earned a mathematics degree at the EPFL and is also the founder and CEO of RAK Ceramics, the world’s leading ceramics company. RAKIA is the structure that is managing the Emirate’s economic development. "

Rak university of medicine...I love it!! Now maybe they might churn out a couple of 'real' doctors but I suppose potty will come up with another title for himself if that day ever comes or perhaps grant himself an honourary medical degree.

It's funny that a guy with a math degree can't seem to count all the money that his ventures pee away.

And he's not Swiss, he's lebanese but that's not prestigious enough to be one of those and taken seriously in the Arab world, or so he seems to think, so they constantly comment on his swiss passport in the media.

There's an old expression... " A dangerous mix of 'hasn't got a clue and doesn't give a F*%$"

That about sums him up.

So what's the latests on RAK airways? CEO no. 49 doing a good job?

By now the two Danes, the RAK CEO and the Silver Air CEO can stick their heads together and find a way to get their Boeings up in the air before they sink into the tarmac asphalt
