The odds have shortened

Was in RAK last week, and even more terminations.

Another VP, given his marching orders, (for I believe the third time).

A new airport fence, being constructed, is this to keep people in or out.

I was talking to a camel herder, who was being moved on for being a security risk, near the VOR. He told me that RAK airways is destined for big things.

I asked him if that was the redundancy packages, he replied they only get one month, unless they are the CEO, in which case they get one year.

Its all Potty if you ask me.

For real this time?

Keep an ocassional eye on this forum, and am somewhat surprised if they really are closing RAK Airways. Drank with some of those expats during my time in the UAE, they seemed to think that the airline would always be supported by the local sheik. I assume that the flight attendents would be sent packing back to their home countries as well. Anyone got an idea when (if) the operation will be shut down? If I were RAK Airways, I would have run that BAC-111 outta the airport, and double charge those female chinese "tourists" for their Iranian flights. All piling on aside, I enjoyed my time in Ras al Khaimah, and am saddened about their employees. For the most part, they were very nice people.

CC allowed to stay in accomodation

Those that have been given termination letters will be allowed to stay in Taliban Towers until Mid March 2009.

RAK applied to operate HAJ flights, just a tad late I suspect, Hoskins.

The word on the street is that Captain Potty, is not popular with senior locals, and even the Royals are displeased.

My guess is both RAK and little sister, will be history by 32nd December.

Real shame
Closing doors after two years of struggle
Some two hundred odd staff

Sorry to disagree

Pleanty of money, plenty of leadership, plenty of decisions.

Perhaps these are the problems.

Too many decisions.

Too many leaders.

Too much money wasted.

No progress, except up blind alleys.

Agreed not enough "guidance" from the Royal Family.

Happy New Year to all those still in RaK.

gotta agree

During my time there, I met lots of management, especially in engineering. I don't think any of them have ever picked up a wrench, but they all had nice salary packages. The company outsourced its Colombo and Bangladesh flights, leaving its own aircraft to just do the Calicut run. Why they didn't maximize their own aircraft's flight hours, I do not know. The N-registered subcontractor was doing tons of flying (when it wasn't broken), while the RAK aircraft did very little. When I asked the chief pilot about future aircraft, he admitted that they weren't even sure what type of plane was going to be bought, as they couldn't even figure out a route structure. I don't even know how Air Arabiya could fly that Airbus to Dhaka without bumping half the passengers, the 757 would be at max weight. Looking back, I have to laugh at some of the nonsense management threw at their employees and subcontractors. They were little more than dead weight, taking a paycheck and doing very little. They treated their flight attendents like rubbish, and I feel little sympathy for them. Good riddance.

Sorry to hear RAK is closing! Good luck to anyone left there. It looks as if the GCAA will take the AOC away in January. GCAA do admit the only good thing about RAK was the high standard of the pilots hope that is true for their sake?

At last

Well some of us have been predicting that for a while. How the GCAA has let an embarrasment like RAK continue to hold an AOC for so long is beyond me. Anyway a festive Ho Ho Ho to the animals in charge of the zoo up there.

RAK news!

RAK still have an AOC and it look like they might get new lease of live, some foreign investors may take over the operation.
The aircraft just doing few charters but they stuck with B757 till the end of the three years lease deal.

I hear from the GCAA that the AOC is due for renewal so they will not renew the AOC when they come and visit next week. They are getting pressure from the big players in the UAE to keep up an impression of high standards, closing RAK Airways will do this nicely. It would be good to distance your self quickly if still involved in RAK Airways.
