What a stupid thread. Why are people winding themselves up?There is no evidence what so ever that Gulfair will be recruiting
DECaptains. Some people are only happy when they have something to grumble about......GROW UP!

I agree with brick in the well, you guys got nothing else to do but think of ways to get any thread going and make GF FOs start worrying about their futures.

Have to agree with you here. There is absolutely no evidence of this, in fact they are upgrading 4-6 new Captains every month, full stop.
Of course we could all do something stupid like running over to another Gulf airline and join the bottom of the list and wait for another 4-5 years, keeping in mind that all these airlines hire DECs and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future...
No, for the moment I would be more concerned about the financial situation and business plan of where we are rather than this rumour, this I think is something to be seriously concerned about, not to mention the state of the machines....

The evidence of 10 DECaptains at GF in my time at GF "first appeared" early one morning at my annual GF SEP school refresher class....this is the way it is was done at GF then.....there was of course the predictable mass protest...All Captains and all F/Os were into the offices like Flyn as the future upgrades to Captain and future training on to different fleets for Captains were now lost or seriously affected... both were now open to direct entry new hires...interestingly these DECs were also on GF 12 years increment saleries.
The late Captain Woodhead was active in getting this new policy
cancelled and getting these DECs hired correctly as GF F/os...
basically these DECs thought they needed their 55 to 60 years in the Gulf on top of their index linked BA pensions or their A scale Cathay milion dollar provident fund.
Happily a few were soon promoted to Captain but the important thing to the long service GF pilots was they were hired initially as F/os and when made Captains in order of seniority, availability, experiance, etc etc and they did not start on 12 year increment...
GF then payed these guys an increased profit share compared to their regular pilots...probably just to prove who was boss.
Thoes that did not like that were told..... they could leave and after getting their commands and a sim training qualification they surely did....one Captain got the glass cockpit on his licence, payed his bond and joined SIA resigning the same day his GF line training was signed off...
and the cream of GF Captains soon followed him...nationals and expats.
I think the most secure job in aviation must be on the interview board for GF new hire pilots...this company seems to have a fixation to get its pilots to resign and move eastwards.

Funny to see....

GF FO becomes Capt, resignes because of DEC hiring at GF and than goes to another airline as DEC!

That comes close to the perfect defention of Hypocrit as possible!

Wake up and smell the roses boys...DEC is part of our world.
Unless you are flying for an institution such as BA or CX, DEC is a necessary evil to deal with the massive pilot turnovers in the region!

GF untill now was shielded more or less from this phenomenon, but you all should have known that would not last forever!

And as pointed out here before...what are you gonna do about it? Resign as FO, join the neighbours on the bottom of the S.L. and wait another 5 years...

Just do your job, await your turn and do what needs to be done. Chance are that you will be looking for a DEC somewhere in the future anyway!

SIA have always had a DEC policy whereas GF only from time to time and I doubt if that newly glass qualified GF Captain who joined SIA left GF because of the DEC policy changing at GF but more to do with the fact that around 95/97 GF looked like it was going down the tube ( and still does some would say) and so us " cream" ( thanks 40&80!!) left and joined SIA in great numbers.

Stop moaning. hippocrites. Are you going to go to another company as an fo if you are a skipper...are you ****. Brush the chips off and get on with it.
Many very qualified pilots are very close to getting shafted and being jobless in Europe. Do you think they really care if you get shafted by your employer.
You all went to the gulf to look after no1 and that is all the decs are doing and will do.
What is it with gulf pilots that they honestly think they are flying for legacy airlines with all the traditional benefits. Your expats on an expat gig with expats as bosses. Its only a free house away from any other contract job
You are all hired help in off the shelf contract operations to give arabs some credibility.Stick a flag on it and pretend they built it all themselves. As an ex expat of 20 years...nothing has changed its just got more crowded.
Ill bet none will leave. If they do in the current climate they are showing the same judgement that took them to the gulf in the first place.

Thats not meant to be a personnal dig just the facts of life.

insurance policies

Hey guys,

I was wondering ... are the Gulf Airlines (EK, EY, GF, QA) slaves to the insurance companies? I say this because where I am from, the insurance companies run the show. If a guy/gal has been flying for a company for 10 years but the only command time they have is 100hrs on the C-172 "heavy", the insurance companies will ask the airline to pay extra for this person. And so, I've seen it happen where many guys/gals have been overtaken by guys with much less experience but with more captain time!

I think it was a lot simpler than that guys.

WY came to Bahrain to woo the Omani boys back.
The Omani pilots said they would if they had the same package as GF.

That's a reasonable request isn't it? After all, they have financial committments based on their current income.

WY agreed. The boys resigned, and returned home.

Fuelcockhead and Camelf**ker,
you have made this a personal issue against these guys.
It is WY who agreed to these guys reasonable request. Had they not, then they would have remained happily with GF.

If it is a bone you need to pick, go the WY management, or leave with your poisonous attitude against the pilot group.

You will find that you were the rude ones with comments against the soon to depart GF Omanis, like;

"..then they might gain some respect/credibility and acceptance..", and

"Prima Donnas", and

"The GF 16's present selfish "I'm alright Jack" attitude is very damaging, unhealthy and unwelcome in the Professional Pilot community as a whole.
The GF 16 should be ashamed to call themselves Pilots !!!", and

....need I add more?

If anything, the return of the Omani pilots will increase the conditions of everyone there! You should be thanking them for that!

If skipping the seniority is your worry, I will say one more time. Oman was a partner with GF, hence the numerous Omanis at Bahrain in all capacities. When Oman pulled out (quite abruptly, I might add), they left behind a lot of senior Omani pilots. Oman would now like them back with WY with their seniority intact because of their many years of service for Oman at GF.

As the IB57 said, get over it and stop pissing into the fan.

Going back to the topic of this thread, I don't think many F/Os will leave GF if DECs are introduced.
All of the DECs will be for the A330 and A340. I think that will be inevitable eventually if GF continues with it's growth plans beyond 2010.
What I think will happen to the A320 guys is,
1. upgrades to the left seat of the A320 to those who meet the command requirements,
2. those without continue to the A330/340s as F/Os,
3. senior F/Os from the A330/340s get command upgrades on the A320.

Just speculating, yet to be seen.

The only place I think I err on is the timeing.
