When are you guys expecting your next payraise this year?

If I remember correctly the announcement is in April and the pay change appears in the pay at the end of May.

Any leaks or rumors of what it could be??

How long is a piece of string? Think of a number and you'll hear it somewhere in town. The optimists will go for the 70% in line with government employees, the pessimists will say a low % on basic pay and some fiddling with flight pay

Hopefully enough to keep the skippers around......

Nirvana, placebo, enema..... take your pick

Makes me think of my years 2 to 4 at EK. I listened to Captains telling me that things will only change for the worse. It will be a small increment, some fiddling with FTL's, some adjustments to the 'actual' pay method but in the end it won't amount to much and in effect will be a huge negative in terms of overall terms and conditions.

I used to think, wow, that's pretty negative, especially considering most of these guys were pretty decent chaps. Now I find in retrospect they were correct.

I expect no change of this policy in the future. Never come to this place expecting anything more than what has been shown to be in effect at the moment. Promises and expectations mean nothing here.

Having said that, I still like it here, just wish management could see that it would not take much to make this the most desirable job on the planet, and at very little cost and much reward to the company and Dubai as well.

I honestly don't see much more than the 3% increment plus some fiddling with the flight pay for the following reasons:
  • With all the talk about revaluation/unpegging of the dirham later this year, they will play a wait and see game - the last thing they want to see is a pay-rise by virtue of a currency revaluation.
  • Right now, the rate of attrition is fairly low. At the December training meeting, Ed indicated as much and said that they felt no pressure to adjust the package as a result. In fact, I suspect that the decline in resignations is more of a short term anomaly due to the timing of various start ups and other carriers delivery schedules.

The result will be a healthy profit share which will be advertised as an increase in pay and a paltry adjustment to the package that, when proved insufficient will be left alone because budgets will have been written and because "we can't give the pilots a mid-year pay-rise and not give everyone else one." What we may see is individual deals being given again to DEC's (if it's not already happening).

Spot on.

This is exactly what is being discussed. Expect the lowest rise ever this year if the Dirham has not been revalued by the UAE by the announcement time.

This will be used as an excuse and whether it does or does not, no mid-year pay rise will occur unless attrition gets uncomfortable.

The absolute minimum has always been the approach at EK with no slack for inflation for the year ahead. Only catch up to the year behind.

Over the last decade this has resulted in a substantial and continuing falling salary in "real" terms.

Most of us continue to sit like the proverbial frog in the slowly heating pot.....

70% on basic.
Housing allowance of 200k.
Free Bentley unless you want an Aston.
80 days leave/year.
4 months profit share on new salary.
A letter of recognition from TC to thank us all for our hard work.

Ok, the first 2 lines are only for ATC, maybe the others will come true...not!

Here's my spin - if the Dirham is revalued (as was mentioned in the papers over the last few days), they'll say that was our pay rise.

I see some beat me to that conclusion.

SNAM,

'scuse me for answering a question with a question but....

How much work are you doing for your money? 600 hours, 700?
What about 28 days limits? Anywhere near 80 or 90 hours?

Did your local government employees get a 70% pay rise because of the rate of inflation and spiraling cost of living?

We are all here to earn money. In relative terms our pay has gone down due to the exchange rate and increased cost of living.

If you're happy to accept what you've got at the moment then good for you.
Of course, you could apply..............

And if you think it's over

What do you think this CRS change is all about? Definitely a move to change the ratio of how you get paid. With the pay review just around the corner, this CRS change of the rules is to fool the pilots into thinking they had a pay raise again. With inflation at 12% for 2007 and more in 2008 we would need at least 30% raise to bring us to the level of productivity of 5 years ago (For us pilot productivity is money divided by hours worked ) They will give us a pay increase with a few examples and lies and try to tell you that you had a certain % pay raise. The reality is that you will probably have to work more hours to be able to make the same money... give it a try... divide the money you made for the last 3 years by the hours you did. Then you will see your real pay increase... then you subtract inflation, and extra costs not being covered by the company anymore like the extra school fees for example and you end up having a pay cut... it is reality of living here... Again if you are not happy you can leave Or at least don't come here, it will save you having to leave...Ha Ha HA Keep Discovering!

Exclamation Drastic rise in food prices raises concern

From the Gulf Newshttp://www.gulf-news.com/nation/General/10189616.html

Dubai: Basic food prices in the UAE have risen a staggering 36 per cent, figures compiled by Gulf News show.

At a glance: Soaring costs

Price of Basmati rice has shot up more than 50 per cent from Dh15 for a bag of 5kg to Dh22.70
A two litre bottle of cooking oil has increased 80 per cent, from Dh10.85 to Dh19.60
Indian mutton has gone through the roof from Dh13 a kg last year to Dh28 per kg
A whole chicken now costs Dh17.25 as compared to Dh10.35 last year
A 30-egg tray costs Dh14.60 today. Last year it was Dh12.30

Lets hope a pay rise is decent enough to cover the cost of living increase.
