Condolences for EK SFO
It was reported in the papers about the very tragic accident and demise of an Emirates Boeing First Officer yesterday. The cause of death was a road accident when the SFO's stationary car on the hard shoulder was run into by a neighbouring contrys 4x4. There were 2 deaths in the stationary car and a reported 3 deaths in the car that impacted them.
My sincere condolences to his family both here and in his homeland.
Please let this be the last, and never ever stay in your vehicle if stopped on the side of the road!

Have never met the gentleman, but apparently he leaves behind a wife and two kids. A sad, sad day for the pilot group, the company and expats in Dubai as a whole.
How much unneccesary death must occur on these roads before the government does something about it? To heck with wasta and nationality, people should be punished for their actions as happens in any evolved society.
Time for evolution people. My condolences to the family.

A truly horrible situation. I wonder if there's anything that we as a pilot group can do to help the family? If so, I'm all for it.
Reminds me of how much I worry about my family on the roads here when I'm away...

Condolences to the wife and family for this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them during this very sad time. It makes one think that it could have been any one of us.
Can't we as a pilot group set up a small fund for his wife and kids as a goodwill gesture - maybe something at the CBC where we can drop money off and present it to his wife and family on behalf of all of us.
Maybe EPC could be involved?
Any thoughts?

Bank Account set up in wife's name
After many queries to the company from colleagues wanting to make donations, a bank account has been set up in the wife's name. The details of the bank account are available on the crew portal.

Condolences and prayers to the family and friends of the gentleman.
Good idea Crinklstein about the box at CBC. I think it's easier than an account as people are bound to pass by it and contribute. With two kids on her hand and a move I'm sure she will need all the assistance she can get.

This is my biggest fear everytime my family is on the roads. For those of you not here you have no idea what i mean. Yes it must stop , will it stop NO. Shame on all the reckless drivers on the Dubai roads. It highlights the ' when the next good job offer comes' I'm out of here. Living in fear is not fun.
My heart goes out for his wife and kids
Have a look at your kids, can you picture them gone!

Three killed in Dubai-Al Ain Road accident
By Bassam Za'za', Staff Reporter
Published: October 07, 2007, 16:18
Dubai, Three people, believed to be two Colombians and Omani, have been burned to death in what was described as ‘the most horrific collision on Dubai-Al Ain road’ on Sunday afternoon, Gulf News has learnt.
The driver, believed to be Omani, was speeding when he lost control of his steering and hit a car which was parked on the road shoulder ahead of the sixth interchange on Dubai-Al Ain road.
“The strong impact tossed the vehicles for 98.1m before they were completely gutted by fire thus burning the three victims completely and keeping nothing visible of their bodies.
The suspected Omani seems to have been fatigued, sleepy or was busy with something inside his vehicle when he lost control and rammed the other car.
"Investigations are ongoing by fire, traffic and biological experts to identify the victims and the causes,” Salah Bu Farrousha Al Falasi, Head of Traffic Public Prosecution, told Gulf News two hours following the accident.

I feel very sorry for the family's of both these gentlemen, and worry about my own.
The unfortunate fact is that very little is being done by the authorities here to fix the situation. These two individuals would still be with us except for the disregard of some other driver to apply some common sense.
And just to add..that is not the only accident out that way on Sunday, another one on Al Ain Road just north of Emirates Road later that night. At least two vehicles, one was on it's back, the other severally damaged. Passed by the scene about 11:30 P.M. Don't know if it was fatal.
The CBC support "box/fund" is a great idea.

Tragic waste. Certainly does make us all very sad, but F***ING ANGRY as well. Not only have we lost one of our brother's, but also an innocent fellow colleague over here doing interviews. What a bloody disgrace this sh**hole has become.

when you see parents with their kid on their lap whilst balancing a mobile on the other hand and flying through the traffic, and cutting across two or three lanes to take an exit, not once but everyday, you have got to wonder. innocent people will and do get hurt or worse. they should impose harsher penalties otherwise they'll never learn.

Very sad. My condoleances to the families. Indeed never remain in your car at the side of he highway. But lets face it DXB has the most insane traffic in the world. I could kill some of the lunatics driving (if you call this driving) and bringing me or my family in danger. Welcome to the country where there is ZERO respect for life and human being.
I made a mistake by coming here. Not so much for EK, I find the company treats its staff really good, but for everything els.

I am deeply saddened to have learned that the article in the paper regarding the accident turned out to be one of our own. My wife and I sat yesterday talking about it and how this sort of thing seems to be getting closer all the time. Our thoughts go out to the family.

Condolences to the bereaved families and friends.
Tragic though the loss is, it’s the celebration of the time we had with these fine people that we should be focusing on. The celebration of their life and all the great things they did. The laughter they brought and their contribution to others lives through their presence.
For those left behind, well… all that can be said is that our prayers and thoughts are with you.
