All our sympathy for the family and their close ones.
We have to try to contain our anger, as it only leads to more sorrow.
We concur with collegues above that EK is ok, it's the surrounding local culture that gave us a sleepless discussion night.
I would like to have my family out of reach of this un-culture.

Our deepest condolences

My deepest condolences go out to the families of both the EK lads.
Just a thought....how come the newspaper clip in one of the earlier posts makes NO MENTION whatsoever on the tragic loss of the two occupants in the stationary car?? And why,i wonder are the fellas in the 4x4 being referred to as "victims"even though in the previous sentence alone were they critisizing their actions. They were the perps not the victims.
This is not a topic of discussion at a time like this, rather an observation!

Very sorry to hear about this tragic accident, but more shocked to read that two colombian guys were involved in this accident. Any of you guys know the names of this guys? Were they former Avianca pilots? I used to fly with Avianca as well and really would like to know this since most probably, they were friends of mine. RIP

I am an EK cabin crew and I found out about the tragedy in the Gulf news. The Company should keep informed us about things like this. We are all one team, right. Pilots and cabin crew. My deepest condolences to the family, the wife and the children. Contribution box in CBC is a good idea. We are willing to help out as well. He was one of us!

It's very sad. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Far too many people are dying in this country and elsewhere in the region because of these lunatics.
The Police ought to do a much better job across this country instead of being so reactive(???). Catch these guys and make them pay dearly for the offences. Just look at the way they still drive around here despite all the efforts made by the governement and so many private organisations.

Note: My apologies for drifting a little bit out of from the main subject here, but I just need to vent out my anger. Good night!

God Speed Guys...

At times like this it's good to see Emirates there for the families and arranging everything and a having a part of the company that you can count on when you really need them.

Will look out for the Box at CBC for the families.

Angry

Bloody awful news Tragic for the families of all the dead. But when will the Police finally start being proactive instead of sweeping up the debris and lives of accident victims.
Glad i have a LARGE 4x4, at least it may protect me and my loved ones from these out of control idiots on the DXB roads.

Great idea on the ££$$$ collection.

Glad i have a LARGE 4x4
EGGW,

That may not help, its amazing how often they end up upside down in even the most minor collision or after a blow out. My family have done the Toyota barrel roll and survived.

The crash stats are interesting but I reckon a good quality big saloon is safer than most 4x4s. Mercs etc.

Anyway who cares, its a crap place to be when you can't stop on a hard shoulder without being murdered by some idiot. RIP

Exclamation

RIP. What was his name though?. As much as they try and educate drivers here about speeding etc it will never work. It's just a fact we all have to live and take extra caution on those roads. When it's time to go its time to go and thus this gentleman had to leave us.

Condolences to the families. Don't know either person, but hopefully the community in DSO have rallied around to help.
Can't the EPC and Flight Ops arrange a collection for the families?
I particularly feel for the second guy (who was here for the interview). At least the EK employee will have some sort of insurance. The other guy will have nothing.
What a mess - we are all at risk.

Bank Account set up in wife's name

After many queries to the company from colleagues wanting to make donations, a bank account has been set up in his wife's name. The details of the bank account are available on the crew portal.

A nice tribute to our colleague on the EPC web site. A very moving poem.

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941

This poem, High Flight, has over the years become a mantra to pilots.
It is reproduced here as a tribute to, and in memory of pilots of all generations
