Lil Blueberry,
Please inform us. What are the details of the new FTSO contract and how do they differ from the old? Thank you.

While not perfect by any stretch, things seem a lot more positive over at EK.... Looks like they are starting to hire onto the 777 again.
Food for thought if you actually have a choice (and many people don't have a choice)...

Is that from a reliable source? Doesn't make sense to me? The company will need Capts, First Officers and Second Officers with each new aircraft that arrives.
If FO vacancies aren't filled from the talent pool, they will have to upgrade SO's, then train replacement SO's, doubling the companies training requirements which is already stretched beyond capacity.

Well 100's of us where/is hoping for some form of news at the end of November. I really hope they don't tell us to wait another 3 months. How they can still interview people when there is already a shed load of us waiting.
There is probably going to be another batch of Spanish pilots going to Doha again. (Iberia pilots).

Another swimmer!
Hi folks,
Another swimmer here looking for info.
Interviewed as F/O 777 (currently flying 777) in May
Bit of a 'lost your paperwork at the medical department' scenario...
Good news after calling someone in the HR dept in October.
Email to say that there will be more info at the end of November.
A lot of posts here are from FTSO or NTSO. Anybody with news on FO (type rated on 777)? If they offer me A320 I won't go. Only interested in 777 F/O or maybe, possibly 787 F/O. Does anyone have inside knowledge of intake dates for someone in my boat?
Its really great to have an avenue like this with such a wide range of people posting (including some employed in the sim and/or training departments it seems).
Cheers

More direct joiners?! Haven't they learned from the past?
If the pilots are not bound to Qatar with a long term contract (type rating, etc) and QR takes over complete fleets from other companies they will soon leave again.
The middle east is not a place for everyone. Let those direct joiners have a glimpse at it first (e.g. come to Doha, stay there for a week/during assessment) before they get hired straight away. Or the same will happen as with many ex Spanair pilots - as per rumours.
There are many people waiting in the pool that know what is coming up to them once they are hired. And in general - there is a pool. So why hire complete batches again if there were so many issues the last time?
I can understand that it saves a company time and money (and training capacities) if you hire type rated direct entries. Which is in general a good thing. Win-win situation for both. But despite that, they still have to be standardized. So the effort to restandardize in such big numbers is actually the same as a complete type rating, referring to the past.
I am happy to be proven wrong in this case, maybe I am just overly suspicious.

Clinsta - hope you have applied to EK as well. They are hiring onto the 777 again. Although I do not know personally, I doubt QR would place a typed/experienced 777 pilot in an A320 - although I have been surprised in the past.
With Iberia and now SAS likely to furlough many experienced pilots, I guess it is likely the Gulf carriers will open their doors with special recruitment like QR did with Spanair - let's hope these pilots are more fluent in English...

First of all welcome to the pool and congrats for passing the selection process.

But there is still a small chance for experienced guys to get an earlier update/start date.
@clintsta
Please apply for Emirates. You would be a fool not too. Overall package better ,company efficiency is ALOT better and lifestyle in Dubai is second to none compared to QR/Doha.
Yes, you would most likely get on 777. And you be right to not take anything less. But it is QR and who the hell knows what you'll get
@Capt-Aviator
Briefly on the FTSO contract/bond as i dont think its answerd yet;
Bond over 5 years and $75k..... also, start taking bond payments from day one!
So your screwed if you have a family, and your basically screwed again unless you get accomodation provided (which u quite possibly wont).... the FTSO pay is poor...... not to mention the time its taking them to be trained!!!!!!! Basically an S/O (FTSO or otherwise) has less respect than a 3 week trained F/A!!!! ... expect to not be told when or how long your training will be.
FTSO/SO Pay (Riyal, p/m):
9000 base.
1000 travel.
6000 housing (limits you to sharing or Ezdan towers ..... oh housing rents is expensive!!) you will spend it all, if not more.
so QR 10k = 2750 USD = 2150 EUR...... (Per Month)
Then you have a bond to pay out of that for new FTSO terms.... so minus 1388USD/5088QR.... SO YOU HAVE about $1380USD to live with per month......good luck with that!!!!
talk about slave wages!!!! Hopefully that will get you wannbe's thinking.
Oh and like I keep saying, if you come as FTSO then you will wait while your FLC number gets less because of the DEC's/F/O's that get skipped over you and trained while you wait and wait and wait ......going broke for this fantastic opportunity to be treated like a starry eyed moron
I am not sayn not to come, I am saying be fully armed with both positive and negative realities of the place; then you will have no excuse.....good luck with your decision !

Pool update ... thoughts
Hi Guys
From what I can see and from some friends that just got the good news that they passed this week , they will be getting an update in Feb '13. For those who have been in the pool for a while and without contracts it seems that it still stands for an end of Nov update ..... who knows what it will say though . For those of us with contracts just waiting well ..... hopefully we will hear something soon . People who had interviews in Jan - Feb '12 and got their contracts in May are starting to get their DOJ's Things are moving so stay positive
Cheers

FTSO New Contract
@ DISAGREEABLE
Thanks for the info.
So in a nutshell, if one is joining QR as a FTSO/SO, they ought to be prepared to live on a shoestring budget for 1 year (until promotion to FO) and have saved enough money to cover existing financial obligations such as mortgage, loans, family support (eg. education, food and utility bills) for the said period (1 year)?
Cheers!

no probs, just trying to open peoples eyes..... and your absolutely right.... single = ~10kusd and family you need approx ~20k+ USD... i think was mention somwhere b4..... asnd yes, expect 12months to be trained (if you call it that).
@sqn12
tough position, but dont go broke/hungry waiting for QR! Patience is a virtue up to a certain point, then your just being foolish
Others in the hold pool........ dont forget this thread exists.... just to avoid clogging up this thread with how long your waiting!! Plz.....
