New Runway Open at DXB

Morning all,

Just noticed that they are now using 12R for departures. Is the first day operation ?

Saw EK A345 rotate of 12R from Al Qusais - looked pretty cool with the Royal hangers in the background.

So will it be as it was years ago with 30L/12R for arrivals ?

Cheers

Yup, first day today.
Dual operations are only in the 12 direction at the moment. ARR 12L DEP 12R. Also limited periods during the day.
30 direction "getting after some time".
Eventually segregated staggered ops with ARR 30L, DEP 30R.

Hi Guys, Keep up the good work. With the dual runway ops, does this mean you have increased tower staff to 2 tower controllers and 2 GMC positions, or are you still running short staffed. I seem to recall the plan was not to open the 2nd runway until after the staff issue was sorted. On that note, any news on the emergency staff package.

Cheers Thunder

Arrival Rwy 30L, Departure Rwy 30R

When that happens don't be surprised to get requests for 30L departures.
I mentioned elsewhere already that 30R can be quite limiting.

The most likely candidates will be 777-300's on flights over 6 hours, A340-300's on flights over 8 hours and 777-300ER's on flights over 10 hours.

When I crunched numbers this morning on the performance laptop in crew briefing it showed that 30L will be less limiting and should allow higher takeoff weights.

Not sure why; but somehow I had always thought 30R would remain the landing runway and 30L the departure runway, despite the longer taxi distance.

Not going to make the slightest difference China. 30L NOT available for Departures so the figures don't matter and if you request it if it ever does become available you can expect a looooong delay at the hold because as the Arrival runway, all of the arrivals wil have priority over you as a departure.

Of course... You could wait for a vortex gap behind an arriving A380 in the 2020 when they are delivered!!!

Sorry Eldin

Only just read what you were replying to... It's possible but what I said about the priority still stands. The whole configuration is designed for landing on the left.

Cheers.

30L Not Available for Departures

You mean not available right now, till the concrete pouring is done; or not available like in never ever, till hell freezes over and drivers on Sh. Zayed Rd. become courteous?

If the difference means shedding another 12 tons payload my sheikh might call your sheikh and my sheikh is stronger than...

Ah, forget it; for a moment I had forgotten they're both the same.

Many moons in Dubai and still full of illusions....

Dependent ops for now with single local controller. 2GMCs at peak periods.
Independent ops starting Oct 1. 2 local controllers, 2 GMCs.
