Etihad Company provided Accommodation

Unlike Emirates, Etihad Airways has choosen to go "CHEAP".

The appartments offered as company provided accommodation are ridiculously small ( just ok for bachelors ) and quite low standard. if you have a family or just want something decent, you must be prepared to spend a minimum of 4000 AED/month for a flat or a very minimum of 6000 AED/ month for a villa. ( on top of the allowance FO : 85 000 AED /year and 90 for CPT ).
This is actual figures, expect more by the time you join, market is going crazy.

The company is about to recruit again soon, so for those who might be tempted by this adventure, seriously think about it in your final decision.

Of course they will bull**** you on that point at the interview , they have done it before.......

Hotels on layovers are choosen with the same state of mind.... low std and remote locations.

No rumor , just facts.

The above post is so true.
When it comes to Cabin Crew, the conditions are even of a lower standard.

Announced today ....increase in housing allowance by 20% as well as kids schooling allowance by 25%

For those born in mansions or palaces this is clearly not the place , but for the rest of us average apartment size of 150 - 200 sqm 3 or so bedrooms twice the size of average European or N.American standard , is more than enough, as everyone knows it is a standard in the most of the buildings pilot's live in, gym and pool included.

Sometimes I read comments in this forum and wonder if we might have some royalty hiding between us because nothing will please those ....but then why do you wanna work anyway?

I hope this is the first step, of many, in the right direction to minimise the contractual problems, mainly the guys with children in school age. It is over..., over..., overdue. To speculate on something more is probably inappropriate. Good luck guys!!!

You can't use your mansion back home with swimming pool in the basement as comparison. Why did you leave in the first place. Have you ever worked with BA,SQ,KAL or JAL to name a few? It is not fabulous what they have in EY but I think it is not as terrible as people seems to portray.
I've seen one of the place, its a palace compare to what you might have in SQ or KAL.
You can't compare what EK is providing, it wasn't that good either in the early years. Honestly, I wish I could switch places.
It ain't roses and jasmine where I am now, that for sure. Wanna switch CikP?

Kamaciwa,

You never cease to amaze with your incohesive logic. Wherever you have worked before is irrelevant when it comes to how or why EY "management" should lie to you as they did to many at the time of interview about package accomodation etc...

In addition, your stance in relation to the plight of your colleagues is one of complete apathy, wow, and you wonder why I left?

Well with a lot of lads like you, any F/O with any sense should think 40 times before joining, if it is to meet with your generous attention and I am sure negative retributions that will eventually turn EY into MAS, by thickening its ranks with all the unwanted from there.

Herb,
I normally have to read your post 2 to 3 times before I can actually understand what you are getting at. Sorry mate, my English is getting bad to worst.

You’re probably going to end up telling people the same story later on if this thread continues. I’m absolutely amazed with your consistency hammering EY even when you claimed you’ve never worked there but recently left EY. I never wonder why you left Herb. With a racist and pilot wannabe brain like yours, you probably got kick out from whatever place you came from anyway.

You must be a rookie in expat world herb (if you are one), this probably your first job away from your fabulous little life back home. See more places, meet more people and you’ll appreciate more know what you have.

All the airline I’ve served were all fantastic in their own way with their own little flaw. Stay as long as I like, pack off whenever I like….. Whining is for little girl herb. Nobody join the airline because one miserable guy telling you a beautiful grandmother story during the interview, that's pathetic. Man, what a rookie.
So back to your steno work herb before your boss got to the office.

Thanks Kamaciwa, well said. Things are improving at EY but, housing conditions for people with more than two kids is still unacceptable. Medical is improving, schooling is fine, housing is better (not there yet though), and a few other things like loss of licence said to be in the pipeline.

Good place to be as long as you dont have more than a couple of kids.

single's heaven

From what I've heard, it's a wonderful place to be if you are single... good salary, boats, fast cars, command in due time, ladies...

Etihad

Dear fellow pilots,

As i read through all the information that is written by our anti Etihad pilot which of course he states that are facts, did he ever ask about other things that could be important such as enviroment and the flying part of it. It seems he only interested in the money part. Let me put some facts to you all out there. In the last year only Etihad has gotten a pay rise. An annual increment, a better medical policy, an increase in schooling assistance, a great new staff travel benifit and finally a 20% increase in housing allowance and at least company provided houses. That all might not be enough for our friend but i think that for an airline only 3 years old it is worth trying. Give this airline time and you will see what it will achieve. As i am in Etihad i am not only happy but enjoy my flying again. There is much more good to talk about but i think that these facts will interest you more.

PPRuNe is a reasonable medium to have an exchange of news and points of view. There are some over-fervourous individuals that perhaps take their effort too far and scare others from contributing more often or nothing at all, and there those who somehow got disappointed by the company, based on what they were promised during the recruitment process and find the Ts and Cs versus reality in AUH unacceptable. On the other hand, there are those who just love it and happy they did it. Credit to them.
Without being aggressive or inaccurate, one should let the info flow and counter-act by asking for facts to substantiate a given claim. Perhaps the accuser will not respond and that speaks loads.
I said this before. EY will never shutdown. The less proficient individuals in and all around the Company will eventually find their own fate, however there are those who could not, cannot and will not wait. They either left or are on the way out. For most, the EY tenure was counter-productive professionally and financially let alone the family disruptions where applicable.
Unfortunately, and this is my opinion alone, given the financial and political support the chairperson and his management enjoy, they must have structured the Company much better from Day 1 with an experienced management team well before launch day. It did not happen.
That missed opportunity reflected all the way down to the lower ranks with very few proficient guys being a minority. It is however noticeable but very little publicised, that despite all the troubles, few hardworking department managers have improved, somehow, the local working environment and have fought for a better package.
Generally, contractual Ts and Cs were poor from the beginning and that situation went on for a long time. Frustration grew, people left for better jobs but the recruitment continued with its known faults. One has to remember that there are hundreds if not thousands who have or perhaps believe their Ts and Cs are or were worse in their present or previous job. It is a fair judgement. Thus, they want to join EY...
If one is jobless, with promotion aspirations, single or married with no kids, retired type-rated skippers willing to extend their flying life, etc., have a go!... Ensure you get as much information as you can to help you make that important decision.
There have been recently signs to establish some kind of an overdue order and this is good news. I hope the local government watchs more over EY in order to make it a well-managed brand of Abu Dhabi and UAE in general. The passenger reviews have been good to very good, so this is a good sign.
Enough of this. Time to go. Stay safe and fly safely!

Dear pilots,

I would like to say how i do agree with what our sound minded friend Fractional wrote. EY did not get off to a good start and things could have been done better but thats not what happened. But for someone who has been in EY nearly from the start i have to say that at least the direction we are going is the right one. Things have improved a lot and continue to do so. It just takes time and as mentioned not everyone is willing to wait. But for a lot of us that did stick it out we have seen the great improvments and hope this pattern continues on and on. The reviews are good and the load is fantastic. We are getting on track and i hope things will look much better for the outside person very soon. The huge growth was maybe a bit too fast and it was hard to keep up but the airline has taken a few month and put everything on hold and this has given the airline time to breath and now we are ready again to continue our expansion starting next month. Anyway like Fractional said i hope this site stays open with all the great info and feed back that comes with it. I wish you all safe flying.

With the emminent closure of BWIA expect a new batch of Trini's applying to Etihad, those there already seem to like the company.
