(PAX) Carry-on Security Rules in Gulf?
Can anyone here advise what the PAX baggage security regs are these days in Gulf airports?
I am going to be in and out of DOH, RUH and BAH over the next couple of weeks and hopefully carrying my laptop & cell-phone on-board with me. (including a flight BAH-LHR probably on GF)
Have any of the UK airport restrictions found their way out here? Or is it "business as usual"?
Thanks for any info

Whilst India has pretty closely followed anything that has been implemented in the United Kingdom, the Gulf region has not implemented the more draconian bans. So while there may be more scrutiny, you should be fine with your cel phone and laptop. Duty free sales are business as usual here, although don't plan to pick up a bottle of Johnny Walker departing RUH.
Of course, everything could change tomorrow, and it would be prudent to contact the airlines you will be travelling on.

No worries there as I always buy it in BAH.
Thanks for the info - I just have to ensure that I can "reduce" my carry-on when going UK to USA. Have to check the size of the laptop bag

How long did it take for the Indian "auth-orr-at-ahh-ies" (said loosely, since most sit there with plum-jobs handed to them...but I diverge yet again...)...for them to decide "hey, wait! If the UK has these great ideas, LETS do them TOO!!" (sorry, no offence, but the bad guys just ain't-a targeting India using civilian aircraft...! (yet..))....?? About as long as it took for the UK authorities to DOWNGRADE the security measures, mainly because the mini-baddies were rounded up (hopefully all...) from the 'burbs in Blarney-Land!
Let's revisit this again... AFTER the UK relaxed their security precautions, the Indian "auth-orr-at-ahh-ies" decided to implement theirs!! ...ya gotta love red tape. (or red herrings) (or Johnny Walker Red)
...we now resume our regularly scheduled program in progress...
Cheers,
R.D.

BusDriver - Been here for a while, based in Riyadh for almost 20 years (smiley required for "I must be mad"!)
Just in DOH for a few weeks ripping the Corniche apart but it looks like I will have to fly back to RUH for some visa renewal formalities if I have to stay here much longer - and will prob fly via BAH as there's more flight options.
The final pending trip is (via BAH) back to UK to see the family and to USA for another family member.
DOH? - well I was in the Ramada "library" bar last night and not something I'd want to do too often with a pint at 32QR ($US9), 5 pints = $45, and I was told that the disco down below charges even more!
Can't wait to get back "home" to Audi Sarabia, where there's no tax on it

I was in India when the Indian "auth-orr-at-ahh-ies" implimented the more stringent security procedures. As I recall, it was a few days before Independence Day, supposedly their intelligence services were onto some plots to bomb targets in Mumbai and Delhi and that same day, a mall in Delhi was evacuated because a mysterious package was found. Not surprisingly, after having recent bombings in Mumbai, the threat was perceived as real. Earlier on this year there had been intelligence of suspected plots to hijack or bomb aircraft. The next morning, as we arrived at the airport there was more visible security. Meanwhile, outside on the apron the scene looked a little like this:
OK, just kidding about the picture. Regardless, all of this fairs well with Indian authorities, who seem to have a flair for complicated (and wordy) procedures. Case in point? "Mumbai we have 128 on board and through security, ready for start."
Vat to do, vat to do, sir.
