I was in India when the Indian "auth-orr-at-ahh-ies" implimented the more stringent security procedures. As I recall, it was a few days before Independence Day, supposedly their intelligence services were onto some plots to bomb targets in Mumbai and Delhi and that same day, a mall in Delhi was evacuated because a mysterious package was found. Not surprisingly, after having recent bombings in Mumbai, the threat was perceived as real. Earlier on this year there had been intelligence of suspected plots to hijack or bomb aircraft. The next morning, as we arrived at the airport there was more visible security. Meanwhile, outside on the apron the scene looked a little like this:
OK, just kidding about the picture. Regardless, all of this fairs well with Indian authorities, who seem to have a flair for complicated (and wordy) procedures. Case in point? "Mumbai we have 128 on board
and through security, ready for start."
Vat to do, vat to do, sir.
