Thumbs down Doha too expensive

Hey fellas. Is that only spending too much money in Doha or is it getting too expensive over here. The prices seem to rise on daily basis. One more year and it doesn't make any sense to work here any more. How about the others? Do they feel the same?

HMM well.. I guess my option would be to go back to a home country and fly there.. gettin paid less, handing over 50% or more of my gross income to a useless government, pay tax on all commodities I buy.. pay tax on all interest earned and any interest my little investments and bank account makes.. and all the while saving allot less than what i can save now.. hhhmm

no.. i think i can put up with Doha's false economy for a while longer i'm sure. as some might say, .. it can be worse.. alot worse.

please dont get me wrong though.. I do agree things are going thru the roof over here with regards to cost of living expences but the fact remains for me that I can still do better in the long run to stick it out a while longer.

it's not a bed of roses by anymeans.. also not a bed of nails either.. just gotta take it for what it is and do the best with what you got left over.

Cheers
Krunch

Heard from many people that Doha is a great place to live, very similar to Dubai about ten years ago?

Doha a great place to live...??? You must be joking...
Well here "Officially" there is no taxes, but for me itīs "hidden" taxes!
Just look the price of accomodation, the price of menbership in club, the price of food evrything is getting more expensive at such a rate i never saw it before.....Believe me here, they want to make sure that the money remains in the country...but without Any return for us!!

DXB is still the place in almost all aspects despite all the price hikes, dust, construction inconvenience, traffic madness, etc., although MCT could be the place depending on ones point of view. DXB is more cosmopolitan and more appetising for non-Arabs and MCT more natural specially if you head into the East-South quadrant.
Then, comes BAH. BAH has always been the most organised and also cospolitan and balanced society with more levelled numbers of non-Gulf Arabs, Westerners or Aussies, Indians or Pakistanis, etc., and the Bahrainis have always been happy to stay ahead that way. You can almost do anything yourself.
DOH and AUH compete for the bottom places with the latter in clear advantage since it is not isolated and Qatar is by land. At least you can drive to other places and cities, and there are many, from AUH while in Qatar you have got little more than DOH.
Among KWI, DMM, DHA, RIY or JED, all dry, JED is by far the only place I would choose if I had to make such decision.
Others may differ from my opinion, so other constructive opinions are also welcome. Be aware that the price hikes will be rife as development grows at whatever country, region, area or city.

If you have membership at the ritz carlton or foodshop at landmark then yeah, it's gonna be expensive..pop down to shoprite on airport road to get your groceries and catch an old ornage taxi with no A/C to cut costs. I miss it and would go back there in an instant..
