EK Psychometric Tests

I have been called for a ground based position in the EK Flight Ops dept. In the selection programme it says there is a psychometric testing as well. Would anyone know if it is verbal/nummerical reasoning test or just a personality test or perhaps both? Can anyone shed some light on it? Cheers .

You will do four computer base personality tests including the PAPII. No maths involved yet - otherwise I would still be unemployed! Takes a couple of hours then debrief by Psycho after. Think of several life situations you can use as an example of their deep insight into your character and nod a lot, you will be fine.

The shrinks are supposed to give feedback and not interview you so don't feel pressured into tell them anything. Let them tell you from their 'scientific' reading of your tarot cards who you are! They are not supposed to damage their objective results by listening to your subjective stories. Guess what they do and they will hold it against you.

Thanks Thridle/Schnowzer for you input.

During the debrief session, do they give any positive or negative results? Sorry but never done a personality test before, hence not sure if i will be asked questions regarding the personality tests in the interview.

Thanks.

Just be yourself and have fun with it. The tests are surprisingly accurate and you'll come out with a better understanding of your individual personality.

You can't really prepare for this exercise just go in cold. I'm overstating this a bit, but a sample question might be.... Do you like guns or poetry? It sounds silly, but just go with it and play their game.

After your debrief with the pshrink, he/she will brief your interviewers while you're waiting and they will taylor your interview based on what the pshrink has advised them. In the big picture of the interview however, the questions you'll be asked are really no different than any other leadership/managerial based interview.

The shrink is just supposed to give you unbiased feedback and then give the interviewers some prompts to clarify any potentially weak areas. Let's face it some of the questions are obvious. Have you ever got confused about right or left looking in a mirror? No.......Liar.

You will not fail your assessment if you are an A1 guy throughout the rest of the process unless they think you are an axe-murderer or racist. Some of the shrinks however go beyond their remits and start interviewing you. Do you feel stressed etc? Pretty bloody obvious you are as you are at an interview. Do not feel the urge to pour your heart out!

I have done 5 since I have been in the company and they have all turned out remarkably skewed in favour of the jobs I have been applying for. I must suffer from multiple personality disorder that is affected by what I think they are looking for.

'the test are suprisingly accurate and you'll have a better understanding of yourself'

What a load of shyte!

I hope you honestly don't believe that?? Pysche test aren't worth the paper they are printed on, the human personality way too complex to quanitify, and anyone with a brain cell or six can alter their answers to match the profile appropriate to a job.

A PhD graduate in Industrial Psychology will tell you it's the dog bollocks but it's the pay cheque they're interested in.

I did the test as well. Not a big deal to be honest. First pen & paper test to check if you can think in a logical way. It took around 20min. After that some questions with the computer. In total maybe 250 questions. Sounds like a lot, but you just have to answer what first gets into your mind. There are only 15 questions where there is a right/wrong answer. All the others are there to "open" your attitude and personality to the shrink.
Test was scheduled in the morning hours. Depending on how fast you are, you receive your feedback right after the test. Otherwise you need to wait untill afternoon. Depening on your accomodation, you can go back to the hotel.
The feedback was quite cool. I did this last time for LH and they just said, you´re good enough or you´re not. I´m not a shrink fan and went there very reserved. Sometimes I thought, how the hell did he know ... but it was quite entertaining.
The shrink sends his impression to the interviewers, it´s not a recommendation.
Just be yourself and mark the first answer which gets into your mind, thats it.

Cheers
Fatty

The psych tests themselves are not the problems. The problems are the norms they use and the ridiculous fishing expeditions afterwards (supposed to be feedback). The fishing changes the results and the norms mean that they have no idea who they are really after anway.

I'll be honest I can't remember how the norms were created now for the various populations but they did not in anyway match up to the job reqs. What do I mean? Well for example (illustrative only), the Portugeuse Norm might say have been worked out by interviewing in English a number of Portugeuse Fishermen applying for jobs as dentists and then deciding those guys had the same attributes as pilots.

Looking at the posts above they range from being yourself to give nothing away. I answered honestly, the 'real' question being asked. The questions are all generally part of a series linked together. For example purposes only: You live in Dubai, have you ever argued with an Indian? You might think that is asking whether or not you are racist but more likely it has something to do with truth.

You will have people ragging me for trying to suggest that I am reading too much into it but, guess what, that is the purpose of the tests! When I did the tests, I answered honestly the 'real' questions being asked because I figured it was better to fail as myself rather than pretending to be someone else.

What I would say is that unless you say something totally radical during the fishing expedition, the tests are not pass or fail they only provide prompts to the interviewers. During my time, only once, one of the psychs blacked balled an ozzie because he thought he was racist. He actually had said a common ozzie term that had been mis-construed.

Good one Zomp!

It's real simple, like all under-qualified departments these people have tremendous belief in their own self importance.
So just develop a good relationship with them and tell them what they need to hear, totally believe in their idiotic little process, don't question anything about that process and if you can be bothered massage their sense of wonderfulness.
Then you will be deemed as sane as I am
Its a game, play by their rules

The only benefit EK will get from using pathetic psyche tests would be turning very compentent pilots away.

As I mentioned earlier psyche tests are worthless, they have zero validity in predicting future performance, but it appears that the EK recruiting empire have been fooled into using them by an HR consultant. They demonstrate their own incompetency by persuing this form of recruitment.

I wish I had failed the psych test!

The shrink must have known that I lied trough the whole interview because now they punish me every day for it, especially rostering shows no mercy for a cheater like me.
