EK: Pprune Now Officially Best Source of EK News
Congrats Pprune!
Seems as though the postings here are now regarded by EK line pilots as the best source of information regarding EK Flight Operations (result of an unofficial straw poll running at CBC this week. Gulf News came a close second, but only for news on new routes).
With the demise of CPA, doesn't seem to be anybody around to write the "TCAS Glee Rag" anymore, so Pprune has now been elevated to the primary source of info. regarding Flight Operations.
C'mon guys! When are we going to hear something from Mr. Ed! Let him out of the barn Wilbur!

This site is what you guys (& girls) make of it - you've made it the successful post-office tree that it is. Only downside is the whole world gets to see your dirty laundry. But then you get to lean out the window & express yourself a whole lot more than you can on a company site.

Yeah good observation, and it only takes the dirty laundry of a few to give one a bad impression of the whole neighborhood

YOU can look at EK any way you want BUT they are CHEAPSKATES!! And their constant tight fisted ways will catch them and bite them VERY VERY hard indeed!Anyway off to be productive AGAIN!!

EK has nearly 5 Billion USD in cash reserves floating around the world making god knows what in interest!!They have made profit hand over fist every year they have been operating.They look at every which way they can to cut costs and it seems to be derived from employee salaries and down route allowances!!Some destination allowances have been halved over the years!!
20 years ago an F/O started on circa 15000dhs(2300 pounds) now they start on circa 18000dhs(2700 pounds) what has happened?? GREED,APATHY ARROGANCE and a complete lack of understanding of the current flight crew recruiting market!!Their cheapskate ways have led them to a situation where the flight crew pay is quite CRAP and hardly worth getting out of bed for, for those worth their salt! We are quite literally parking planes on certain days now!!
EK are cheapskates and do not like to pay their employees their true worth and will skive twist parry squirm their way out of any situation to do so FACT!!
year on year they make profit 2 years ago they admitted to having ****** up on the profit target an as a result HAD to pay us 10 weeks bonus(not bad) they vowed not to let this happen again so raised the profit bar considerably.So after the big boys took their 110million usd in DIVIDEND and god knows what else AND after they Sponsored Arsenal for 100million pounds and god knows who else they were in a position to declare their profit of 750million USD or thereabouts and paid us 4weeks minus 8 days!!This is double the profit as of the previous year!! They are so hell bent on investing in EVERYTHING else apart from the SINGLE most important thing for an airline to operate and EXPAND that is qualified PILOTS (sorry everybody else) that the airline is sliding backwards at a rapid rate due to this!! IT WILL BITE!
SO EK wake up dig a little deeper into those pockets and pay up or continue to lose the edge year on year.

I guess you mad an error in your calculation:
I believe you used the current exchange rate for both! You'd have to use the then to date exchange rate!
When I started to work for EK in 2000 with 80 hours flying I'd get around 1800 Dollars. That time exchange rate to the Euro was 1$ = 1,2 Euro --> 1800 Dollars were around 2150 Euros... 4 years later though my salary increased (around 2100 Dollars) I only received 1800 Euros (and that included the exchange rate protection!)
I guess one of the major problems for many at EK is the weak $. A few years ago the salary was very good and worth coming to DXB for, but now ...
