EK Safety on Layovers

I was wondering, has there been issues with the safety of EK crews on layovers. And, are there any specific examples of difficulties on layovers?

There is police or military escort to and from the hotel. Once you are in the hotel each crew member gets personal body gourd and cockpit crew gets two each. Is that good enough? Is someone being paranoid or it's just me?

you forgot to mention the Magnum 44 and cyanide pill that cockpit crews also get to sign for when they check in

I reread my post and it seems a little inappropriate asking about security. What I really was curious about, has there been issues and incidents. Disregard the what lengths of security is taken question. i have a friend that may be coming as a cabin crew and was curious. In fact I edited it and left out that part

The most dangerous part is the drive to and from work.(no joke)

except for that I have heard of one cabin crew stabbed to death in Manilla + a recent robbery in Manilla.

I think they get armed escort to the hot in LOS.

Maybe other stories out there....

One pilot drugged then robbed in KL after picking up a hooker. Woke up in his hotel room totally cleaned out, bet that was difficult to explain when he got home!

Hey Sajko - would that be a gourd, or a guard If the former then let's hope it's filled with a decent Sauvignon shall we

Safety on layovers no different to that of crew with other carriers......

Ek cabin crew safety issues - no problem - check into hotel, get room then remove pot noodles, books, ipod etc from suitcase and stay in room for next 24 hours until check out - no problem!!! Some really adventurous ones go out in a herd shopping, so again safety in numbers!!!!

Again, Mini is so right. Most of them never go out anyway, so security is not a factor..

Good one mini!
...in all seriousness though, there has been instances of numerous knifepoint robberies in KUL near the hotel, and robberies in the hotel rooms in LHR and BKK that I know of personally, but in all fairness probably occur elsewhere also. At least one in BKK was while the f/a slept in her room after a long flight. The hotel suspects an inside employee job, but no one caught. Third hand "stories" of potental spiked drinks in various locations. All these are not unique to crews on stopovers, but happen to everyone virtually everywhere. Due diligence and reasonable personal safeguards will usually prevent most incidents. Of course a good pot of noodles and a deadbolt would appear to be the most effective defense of all but I wouldn't know. Those individuals don't speak much outside the deadbolted door either.

A True Story.

EK destinations... dangerous, MEGA DANGEROUS!

Had a cabin crew member carried away by flock of giant rabid African malaria ridden mosquitos on a Accra layover last week.

Luckily, moments before the alien abduction her drink had been spiked by a tribe of hungry canibals - half Lebanese, I think (am I allowed to say that 4HP? Ah what the f@ck... this is a true story) - from a nearby village eager to feast on her hind quarter. So, when the mozzies proded their shafts into her soft skin the date rape remnants in her blood swung into action and knocked them out instantly allowing the helpless girl to escape their insectous pincers and claw her way to a nearby road where she was rescued by a passing taxi driver. In an attempt to get the shocked flight attendant to a hospital Ndlamini Schumacher's supersonic Toyota minivan........

Ok that's enough from me. You carry on!
(yes I'm bored and need a laugh)

Hey guys you should think twice before jumping on the threads... as written in red somewhere anyone has access to these forums even with uncertain intentions, and without any analyse you rush on the subject...THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU WRITE TWICE

QCM - don't think any real answers have been given, no state secrets at least so calm down. And yes I thought at least twice before writing this, maybe thought three times but can't remember.

On the thought of EK safety (on layovers) here's some things that really get me on the way TO the layover:
Self important pax who think they own the airline because they know someone who knows someone who knows someone of mediocre importance coming onboard with cabin bags they can hardly lift, so they get the girls to try for them!!!
Not being able to talk to Mumbai or bombay or whatever they call themselves these days on HF no matter what time of day or night it is - that irks me somewhat.
Flying to Mauritius in the middle of the night having minimum rest then flying back throught the night - now that's really sensible.
Having to deal with the analy retentive customs/ministry of agriculture and b******t in Aus after a long flight - asking if I have any mud on my training shoes when I'm knackered, is bound to be a safety hazard as it makes my blood boil (especially when I've just come back from NZ where they are just as keen about these things!!!)
As for the layovers themselves EK crew only ever go to the neareset an cheapest places as the allowances won't stretch much further - the safety issue being that if EK actually gave the going rate of allowances then maybe the crew could go to better, cleaner and safer places!!!!!

All the above to be taken with a pinch of salt of course!!!!!!
