EK command interview

through the grapevine heard the ek upgrade interview requires complete digestion of all books ever printed. If thats the case after say six months in the company are DEC's required to go for said interview to test knowledge, mmm !.

SS you seemed to have missed the joke. However as we are on the topic 3 yrs . isn.t that long is it ?. Of course DEC,s shouldn,t be subjected to an interview to check their knowledge prior to a Command position , neither should anyone else , it,s all a bit "flying club " don,t you think ?.

Particularly when one considers the calibre and experience level of those doing the questioning , after all anyone can pick a few questions out of a book at random, what,s the point ?

All relevant knowledge should be examined by experienced trainers during the upgrade and or line training for DEC,s, and if found wanting then the candidate should be informed and a time limit set for improvement, this works very well in practice.

Jack D, with statements like that, it seems you are far too logical for the training system in EK.

Fair point , but how can a little quiz determine suitability for command ? After all there are failures amongst upgraders who have aced the silly thing . There are enough filters at EK without resorting to what amounts to a check before training even begins it sets the wrong tone and that I find counter productive ,
if it is used as a tool to weed out unsuitable candidates then that too is dodging the issue, that may not be the case I just think its daft.

Anyone seriously studying for their upgrade or a DEC who is professional will look at the books , in the end I,ll bet that a lot of "Quiz" material is forgotten after 6 months on the line and relevant matters take precedence.

Who said DEC,s can,t do the job ? as I have said before I must have missed the dodgy ones as I found them to be as good as and in some cases better, all subjective of course, than our home grown Capts....standing by for incoming fire . Doesn,t mean I support the policy at all.

On an unhappy note nowhere is it easier to fire someone than in the ME , in fact some senior people have been removed from a position only to reappear in another guise , a sort of token firing perhaps ? I reckon we shouldn,t take these matters too seriously, a good laugh can work wonders for morale and there is qute a lot to laugh about sometimes.

Best Jack

SS that assessment sounds fair and reasonable as it should be ,

in fact it,s similar to a model used in other parts of the world,

to lighten matters some more I Propose Jacks Upgrader Quiz ,

remember your future is in the balance here.

1. What is the average cost of a pint in DXB ?

2. Does the age of consent vary with nationality ?

3. Why are Aussies and Kiwis different ?

4. Why do Sub Continentals have so many car accidents ?

5. Do goats experience jealousy ?

6. What is the ratio of sand to cement in a DXB highrise ?

7. What is the average life expectancy of an FOM amendment ?

8. What is the meaning of Habibi and Yani ?

9. Is there a school for stewards hidden in the Lebanese hills ?

10. What is the closing time at Cyclones and do EPC members get a discount ?

Please feel free to add your own questions as we want to get this approved asap and sent off in time for the next unhappy bunch of candidates ... give free rein to your imagination and give us all a good laugh, political correctness not necessary .

Jack

We do need some “considered” answers for your excellent, thoughtful and probing questions. I’ll start the ball rolling.

1. Standby - I'll wake the barmaid up and ask.

2. Not in DXB. Here in wonderland, anything goes.

3. Who cares.

4. Not knowing, but a TOTAL lack of spatial orientation may have something to do with it.

5. Spend an equal amount of quality time with each of them and you’ll find jealousy is not an issue.

6. 100,000 to 1.

7. Very short indeed. The reason : - To produce as many contradictory documents as possible so that every one of us is totally confused and therefore has no idea about policy or procedures. Judging by the results, this has been a very successful initiative by the company.

8. Like I really care buddy.

9. Not sure, but I can think of a few other things hidden in the Lebo hills.

10. Closing time last night was VERRRRY late (but she was worth the wait….. )

Please note. Competitive rates for short time, all night…. these and other details are being negotiated through EPC as we speak. Expect an announcement soon.

cheers

EH
