Bahrain info
Hi to everybody,
I know what I'm going to ask it's been already asked...but I need some advices:
In NOvember I will be moving to bahrain married 1 child(5).
I am already looking at houses over the internet but it's not so easy because you can only find 1 agency(bahrain-rent.com).
What about the school? I read about St. Christopher's School.
Any oder info it's more then wellcome.

If you look here in the Gulf Daily News (GDN) and scroll down the left side to 'Classifieds' you will get some information. There used to be several agencies in Bahrain, some specialising in Expats. Can't help about the schools but St Christopher's is a well known one.

Recommend looking for housing on your own in the Budaiya/Saar area, aviod a place called Juffair, rents high, as well as Seef area, nice flats, high prices.. villas can be had in Budaiya for reasonable rents...most long-time expats live in this general area..
school...St Christopher's is the ticket...supposedly you get entry priority being GF staff...not sure if that still applies.. expensive, but only way to go

Not sure about cats, but it can't be far off dogs, which is what i'm dealing with importing. Its quite flexible actually, certain medical standards of fitness must be met (ie rabies shots, certificates of health from accredited vet etc.) then teh appropriate paperwork filed with th authorities. After you get the animal into the country, its a 30 day home quarantine with regular vet checkups. The hardest part is getting your import application approved and back to you in a timely manner. The information is readily available on the web if you do a few searches.

Another top tip would be to book into 'serviced apartments' like Seef Residence or Elite Suites. I've stayed in both and they are very nice with pools, all the cleaning done for you etc. Takes the pressure off Mrs while you hunt about. 2 bedroom for between BD500 - 700 (I think - better check). That way you can check out villas at your leisure and get the feel for the areas before you commit. Most family types live in the compounds of the Sar and Budiya areas.

In my opinion, your comment was rude, and deserves a rebuttal. I am sure you're a good person and you hit the enter key before engaging the brain, but consider that we all have flown with people that couldn't spell, speak, or think English well if they tried, but because they DO try, they get the job done - and should be commended for it!
We've all seen many people that use English as their second language. I've flown with people that struggle at it. Heck, I do some days!! But if they fly mediocre / average / Buck-Rogers-Like, or even with the likes of Spaceman Spiff, who CARES if their English isn't up to someone's ideal lofty level.
Give 'em a break. If I was flushed on the basis of my language skills I would be pushing a mop - no slight to custodians, either!

ctl25 - Many people bring pets of all kinds. Just have the shots up to date, and a certificate of health from a vet. Chances are they could be quarantined, and the time seems to vary from what I have seen. One tip - use a word-processor before posting here if that helps certain individuals from criticizing you. Then again, forget that - keep your individuality! Best of luck on your move. I have heard from many people that Fantasy Island is a nice place to call home. Even for your pets.

Hey! Fantasy Island is a heck of a lot better than The Magic Kingdom - Could be why I take every opportunity that I can to excuse a "business trip" 250 miles down the highway and across the bridge!
Diggers in the Delmon if you like it live and loud, Upstairs-Downstairs in Adliyah if you like some good food (compulsory under local regs) and good jazz (played by Jojo)..well, that's my favorites anyway!

Clothes are very nice here in Bahrain. You will so absolutley love clothes shopping. They are nice and tight and you will find the boys in the shops ever so helpful...
It's an interesting question to post on pprune but if thats where your interest lies, you wont be disspapointed when you walk into the clothes shops and ask the smiling boys for a helping hand (or two).

Somehow... I knew that would happen... 
...and no, I'm not that way inclined, just living in a cold climate and departing for a hot climate... hence the need to do what one avoids doing.... shopping for clothes....
Ps. would have thought that that sort of thing would have earn't those boys a nasty whipping in the ME... or worse...

If you are looking for pet importation info contact a Kiwi named Norma at [email protected] or [email protected]. She's been here quite awhile and specializes in importing pets of all types into BAH. Been a great help to us in getting our dog here from Canada.

Just a note of caution regarding ole Rover...Make sure you find out the cost to repatriate your best buddy! You will likely be surprised to find out that the cost to get him home is WELL beyond the cost to get him over. We found out! Good luck

Yeah Norma knows all the in's and outs of the country. For a Boarding Kennel I would Reccomend "Saar Kennels" It's out in Saar and the got facilities for both Dogs and Cats, Air conditioned, room with a view etc.. They also do grooming. Have fun in the Gulf, not bad place to live, Bahrain may not be Dubai but it's a hell of a lot more user friendly. Real hot summers though

OK... first off, there are no stupid questions. That being said, I think the question about whether or not to buy clothing before or after you get here is a little odd. Do as you wish, but what I would do (and did) is pack what you got, get your wife to go buy you some stuff and pack it too, and then once you get here and if times ($$) are tight, then grab some threads in the SOUQ. Cheap like rice. Or head to one of the malls and grab some higher quality higher priced stuff. Oh, and if you do buy threads here don't be a moron; bring a chick to help you get dressed. Some guys can figure out what to wear, some guys only think they can. Play it safe, bring a girl with you so you don't end up wearing your new sandles, shirt and shorts only to dress up the whole look with your new black socks.
If you are flight crew then you probably will be able to buy clothing where you travel to.
I came from a colder climate (canada) and I just packed what I had and what my wife got for me and all has been good so far. I agree, shopping sucks and that is what women are good at, so let them do it for you. Just be sure you pick one with style and class.
