Phase 2
 
There has already been a lot of info regarding phase 2 content etc if you have a flick through the CTC pages.

I have my phase 2 on the 12th of Feb. Anyone else going then? :ok:

Hi Guys,

Can i ask if you guys passed all skills tests at the first shout? Im thinking of applying but don't know if anything other than 1st attempt (or series) pass is acceptable to them.

Its certainly not compulsory to have first time passes at everything, but if you don't have first time passes, expect to get quizzed about them during the interview (phase 3). I partialled my IR and they asked me about it. Provided you can show how you learnt from it etc etc it shouldn't be too much of an issue - provided you haven't scraped through each stage of your training with lots or retakes, of course!

I was rejected for the Wings ATP scheme on the basis of a second series pass on my IR, despite having previously passed stage three for Wings cadet.

unfortunately I have a 2nd series CPL and (almost!) had tears in my eyes reading this:

CTC Wings ATP places are strictly limited. To qualify, you must:

have a chieved a JAA Frozen ATPL with first series passes in both the IR and CPL skills test
be fluent in English (verbal and written)
produce a CRC (criminal record check) Basic Disclosure Certificate before training can commence
have the unrestricted right to live and work in the EU for European airline opportunities

Time from application to Stage 2 invitation
 
I applied last week a couple of days before the website said it was accepting applications (thanks to a thread on PPrune!) and got the stage 2 confirmation yesterday - so for me it was 9 days altogether - I have noticed that one thing CTC are very good at is getting back to you quickly!

Hello,

I am 18 years old man from Lithuania. And I was wondering about my real chances of joining CTC.
After a year I will try my best to succeed in this program selection. So is it possible to join CTC if I am not from UK?

How should I prepare (order some books)?

I read a lot in this forum and in my opinion it is almost impossible for me to join CTC.

Now I am also working towards my PPL. Will this licence help me a bit?

Last question:
Maybe someone can recommend or help me to find a job in one of the UK airclub or aviation school? My biggest wish is to expand my English knowledge and to see aviation industry, so PM me if possible.

Hi, just been given my date for phase 2 selection, could anyone please clarify how much the CTC ATP course costs? Do CTC bond you for the type rating?

You pay £176 for the satge two selection and similar (I think) for stage three
Then if you make it to stage for you pay about £7k for the AQC after which if you are successful you are placed in a holding pool. Once a vacancy arises with one of the partner airlines, THEY pay for your type rating (while CTC pay you about £1000 a month tax free subsistence allowance plus you receive other applicable airline allowances) and line training which takes about 8 months. Once that is all over, you are then properly employed and there is no financial bond although there is a time bond

This is how I understand it to be - the AQC covers MCC and JOC and so doesn't really cost much more than doing both of those privately (with no job offer at the end!)

All this info is in the previous posts and also on the CTC website if you feel the need to look it up - hope this helps

It has been a while since I went through the programme, but when I did it was slightly different to what zk-pontius describes. The actual line training is not 8 months. First you do the TR course (paid by the sponsoring airline) which takes about two months give or take a few weeks. Then you start your 6 months with the airline, but the actual line training is nornally 1-2 months depending on trainer availabilty. However, you will get the said 1,000 pounds per month in the 6 month period, but there is a big difference between flying with a trainer who asks you 300 annoying questions and normal line flying. When I did it, we received 2,000 pounds back from the 7,000 pound AQC cost (think it was 6,500 pounds back then though) once we finished the actual line training, i.e. after the first 1-2 months of the 6 month contract. However, I can not say if this has changed, so if anyone has new information I will be happy to stand corrected :)

During the TR course, you get 500 pounds pocket money to cover the 2 months (and NOT 1,000 pounds per month) but hotel and two meals a day are paid for during the course. During the 6 months with the airline, you have to arrange and pay for your own accommodation as you are now effectlively doing the normal job.

At those times, stage 2 and 3 were free of charge, but they cost the amount zk-pontius quotes now.

Thanks for that reallyannoyed - thats really useful - I was only going on what I had read and it is quite hard to work out exactly what they mean when you are reading the blurb rather than actually doing it!

so the mcc course at ctc is the final selection stage to see whether you progress to joining an airline and start a type rating etc? that sounds like a job interview costing £7K - or have i misunderstood?

You could look at it like that but the other side of the coin is that you pay to do mcc and joc with ctc (you would have to do mcc with someone anyway) and then as long as they are happy with you (the stats suggest that most people get through this stage - 90% I think) you end up in the holding pool which is vastly different from doing mcc and then still having to apply to all the airlines in the hope that you might get lucky - the trouble with flying is that you spend shed loads of money training and then when you think you are qualified you find out that you still need to spend more! Sucks doesn't it?!:)

so unlike the ryanair thing - the airline pays for the type rating etc, but, you have to basically gamble £7K on an mcc which costs £2K anywhere else, and then you still could be told 'no thanks'. also, if you already have an mcc you cant do it i guess.

You can still do it, if you have en MCC, but it does not change the CTC course in any way. I, for instance, now have two MCCs :)

It is imperative to be sceptical in this business, but I have yet to see a better option for a newly qualified fATPLer than CTC other than direct airline employment, which is, to say the least, quite difficult to obtain.
