Talking The Tide is Turning

Having just received five e-mails from Easy

asking for 737 rated guys (with hours!) and offering them their choice of basing (even though at the bottom of the senority ladder) I am beginning to believe the corner has been turn,

vive la resistance!

Yeah man that is GOOD news ... if BA start to recruit again, not that there'll be any BA jobs for the likes of us wannabes but it could cause a major clear out of the regionals and low cost airlines ... bring it on I say!

In fact the tide has already turned, I know several wannabes who've been waiting patiently and instructing for the last couple of years who've had the golden phone call in the last few weeks, the only real piece of the puzzle that's missing now is for BA to resume recruitment and it'll be almost 'ops normal' although it may take a while to clear the backlog of people who've been waiting.

The only thing that could really screw it up for us now, is one of the big financially troubled tour operators going bust over the winter just as BA start to crank up the recruitment. That or Osama bin Laden taking out Canary Wharf. Or a huge SARS outbreak in Fulham. Or ...

In fact it's all still as fragile as f**k come to think of it, but it's nice to hear that people are starting to get jobs again. Fingers crossed, vive la resurgence!

Swiss national carrier is currently loosing £900,000 a day and is set to ground about a third of its fleet in order to stem the losses according to the BBC News website this morning.

It may have stopped raining but the sun isn't out yet.

About BA recruiting soon, I hope so as it is always great to see guys securing new positions.
But what I would like to point out is the difference between what was happening a few years back and what is going on now.
Traditionally BA was the reference when it came to recruitment. Indeed, if BA was recruiting, shortly after the others would have to, in order to make up for those going.
That was very true a few years back but bear in mind the following...
The biggest recruiter these days is not BA (assuming they will resume any form of recruitment by year end that is).
Indeed, Easyjet and the Ryans have been taking on a significant number of pilot not only in the past few months but also in the past 2 years.
These two players together recruit and will continue recruiting pretty much twice as many pilots than BA will and for the foreseeable future.
What I am saying here is that BA recruiting doesn't mean a huge surge in pilots requirments anymore.
It is a significant, encouraging and important sign but nothing more I feel.
Also, BA used to attract many pilots from charter airlines but with the vanishing of a very interesting pension scheme, time to command etc... things have changed.
Saying that, I certainly believe there are jobs around and I ll be very interested in seeing how things develop from here and in the next two years.

Perhaps we all are on a good thing but things will remain a little blurry for a little longer but with a positive outlook I am sure.

Angry

You're right as always WWW ... press release over in R&N this morning ... Swiss will be laying off a further 700 pilots

Wonder what THAT will do to the likes of Ryan and Easy recruitment in the next few months

What is wrong with bloody switzerland, why are their airlines always falling over all of a sudden?

At the risk of getting everyones´hopes up, I can say that virtually every BA pilot (barring the desk jockeys) have been working their socks off for the last year. I would not be surprised if we start recruiting very soon......
p.s Don´t take this as inside information as I know nothing.....

Hear on the BBC World service that KLM are going to be making another 1500 people redundant. How many of these are cabin crew and flight deck isn't known, but we may not be out of the woods yet.
