Bucks new university BSC air transport with pilot studies

Iam interested in finding out what the employment rate is like for the students completing this course. I went to a open day for this course in 2008 and there seemed to be quite alot of interest in it. Just wondering if any of the grads from the first course are on here and if they have managed to gain employment, or if anyone knows if airlines take much interest in this course when employing.

BA (Hons) Air Transport with Commercial Pilot Training Link to page about the course.

Thanks

I know a few guys who were on this course, sadly they are experiencing the same success rate in finding employment as the rest of the modular students. Not good.

I was on the first year of the course that ran 2005-2006. I don't have hard and fast figures, but out of the 35 or so who started, I know of at least 4 that have or are about to start a jet job and about 6 or so who now instruct. I don't know what the current disposition of the rest of the course is, but I don't think the employment rate is vastly different from the rest of the industry. PM me for more details if you wish.

Funding

I have applied for this and recently completed my Pilapt. Does anyone know about the training side of it and how the funding works. Do they operate like CTC where you pay it back after employment or are you expected to pay for the training in one go?

Interesting....

Given that this is bundled as a BA Hons course, does that not give participants 'proper' student status?

That would mean access to student loans, no VAT on course fees etc etc.

That would be the breakthrough that is long over due!

I suspect however that sadly, this is not the case but, is their any crossover that takes some of the costs into student land or at least the old NVQ status that saved some of us some cash!

Too much to hope for I fear!

Why didn't you ask these questions BEFORE you applied - and especially before taking the Pilapt test?

Hmmm....

I thought about doing this course but only up to the PPL part. I remember when I visited there open day they gave me a sheet which explained the finances and the brake down of costs - You are expected to pay the flight training on certain dates and it is spread out (a little) I remember that it looked like to do the PPL it would cost me around £10-12k! Also looking at the uni league tables they were almost at the bottom!

At the open day I seem to remember them having cabair people there....

A student loan is possible however this would only cover living costs (ish bucks was the most expensive uni to live at when I looked into it this time last year) and also the fees to cover the pilot studies part of the course NOT the flight training - Of course this is to be expected.

I ended up turning down the place and working for 2 years which will fund my PPL and give me enough money to go through uni to become a teacher.

If you want to see where Bucks is in the league table check out the link here.

personally would steer clear of these courses...

you would want a degree that you can fall back on when times are tough, like now.

Study something else and train modular.
