Good luck guys.

I worked on an Wet lease to Etihad. My month long exposure to Etihad was a good one, but I wouldn't want to live in the UAE for various reasons. The company has a great fleet, good service levels and a competent workforce. Most importantly for me, the crew food was very good

If you enjoy shopping there are some malls, some good restaurants, night clubs and bars are all a bit strange - all within hotels. Going for a night out on the lash in the Sheraton..hmmm. At the moment housing is tight and they are sending people out to 'moon base alpha' in the sand.

On the A320 which is where I guess you would start, I was flying places like Damascus, Cairo, Muscat, Karachi, Bahrain, Tehran etc.etc.

i heard that people in UAE are very difficult to get online.
What i have been gathered , you are not allowed to use Yahoo Messenger, facebook, youtube, Skype , Window Live messenger etc. And internet expenses are pretty high when comparing to rest of world. are they true?

Yes you get a lot of 'this site is blocked due to being against the political, moral and religious beliefs of the UAE' or something to that end.

You wouldn't be able to download Skype, however if it is already installed it works fine. MSN messenger works fine in the UAE. It was a fun game seeing how much porn you could get past the filters

Regarding internet prices, they were very expensive at the hotel I was staying at but relatively cheap at the local internet cafe. Because the Dirham is tied to the US dollar, it is very weak at the moment, so as a tourist visiting it is relatively cheap to live in the UAE, but not if you are working there. That said wages at Etihad for full pilots are very good, plus accommodation is provided etc.

Well Frnds, what I feel is that having a Class I medical may nt be a prerequisite bt always a preferred option. Moreover, they may nt filter u out if u dun hav the medicals done yet bt they shall obviously require u 2 undergo medical test with the company n that can be a deciding factor. Although I dun think it shall be of much difference 2 those who hav undergone strict medical tests already.

All the best guys!!!

Hey guys, every1 must hav received an application no. eg. EY/08/04/04050 is my app. no. the last four nos. indicates my sequence of application. That means I'm the 4050th applicant for the post. So, if we can post in our application nos. then probably we can asses an aproximate no. of candidates applied for the post, that shall surely be helpful, wht say guys!!!

Metallicwings, I reckon you are more likely to be the 50th candidate. I think 08/04/04 represents the date i.e. 4th april 2008, maybe that is when the application process was opened? Did you apply early?
Or maybe you are the 50th person who applied for a job on that particular date? My own application is down in the 400's (or 4400's),
Cheers Bungles

Hi all,
I'm trying to find out some details about how this sponsorship works, more precisely, about the contract terms. I know this may be a little premature at this point, but the sooner I (and probably everyone interested) get this info the better.
According to their website,

The company shall be entitled to recover from the cadet on demand the sponsorship cost on a pro rata basis (i.e in proportion to the sponsorship cost incurred by the company to sponsor participation in the programme).
If, prior to the successful completion of the programme the cadet:
-fails to comply with any of the employment obligations and training attendance requirements;
-is for any reason expelled or prohibited from continuing the training and/or fails to complete the training within the period specified;
-fails to pass satisfactorily any final GCAA examination given by the training provider as per the GCAA regulation and as a result participation in the programme is discontinued;
-fails to achieve the minimum requirement of the training; make unsatisfactory progress with any aspect of the training or fails to display the necessary aptitude for the training; or discontinues, suspends or terminates training at any time before completion of the programme.
The company shall be entitled to recover the sponsorship cost in full (and subject to any right of set off as stated in the joining contract) if after completion of the programme, the cadet fails to comply with any of the stated obligations in the joining contract.

Does this mean that the cadet, if, for any reason, is unable to successfully complete the training, will have to pay the sponsorship cost in full? Isn't there any kind of Protection Plan (as in the NetJets/OAT scheme, for instance)? If anyone knows something more specific about this issue, please let me know.

Cheers! And good luck for those applying.

hey metallica, I dont think the numbers are related to the order in which you applied. Mine is in the 4800's and I applied before you on the 8th April 2008.

That's exactly what I wanted to say, its nt related to the date bt it has to be applicant's sequence so, expecting more than 5000 odd candidates. 12 out of 5000, phooohhhh

I have not applied yet, I would apply for the 2nd class (at the end of this year) anyway, but I was wondering: does everyone has a round number like 4000 or 4800, maybe the last zero is there just for fun or something...
