Congratulations guys!! I'm off at the start of October. Brilliant feeling to know you've finished selection and on your way soon isn't it?!
Just 1 thing to mention, if you need to get the HSBC funding, I'd get it sorted VERY SOON...they are stopping the loan at the end of August, so need to act sharpish to secure it. Hoping I have mine in time, as I just passed selection last week and was offered the space in October as someone pulled out or something and have the interview at the bank next week, so going to be pretty tight.
Whether there is going to be a new funding provider announced I don't know, haven't heard anything from CTC to say so yet but the bank just told me this on Monday when I arranged my appointment.

Thanks guys for the congrats - I can't wait and am absolutely stoked about passing selection - '71' is my new favourite number!

Karl, I had my phases 2 and 3 separately. There was around 1 month between these two phases. After phase 3, my original phase 4 was exactly 1 week later. Unfortunately I didn't make it at this stage, and 6.5 months after that I resat my phase 4, so there's quite a gap between initial application and success for me. I know of some people hwo had their phase 4 the day after their phase 3. I think that it's possible to progress through the application very quickly.

Thanks jputney. As mentioned, the HSBC funding is coming to an end. My understanding is that applications have to be in before August 27th and they're pretty much fully booked out until then, so it's looking likely that security (assurity) will be needed for funding the process in the increasingly-near future.

Thanks again, though. Such an exciting time. March can't come soon enough!

No I know, not long! I don't have any solid info on the finance situation, just heard rumours flying about much to the effect of what bonalste has stated. I'm hoping now all is signed and dealt with I won't get collared for security agains't the loan, but you never know .

btw Jordan, I would reply on facebook but it's blocked at work! In short the answer to the question is yes! I'll drop you mail actually.

In terms of finances look at it from CTC's perspective... The fact that if you pass the selection phases enables most people access to unsecured funding of amounts they couldn't get otherwise; it is a huge attraction for many wannabes and if they lost that attraction it would cut down the cadets greatly. Inkeeping with this dramatic loss in cadets coming through the program, CTC are probably working very hard to keep the agreement alive/arrange new terms/get airlines to preselect cadets to provide a direct sponsor or are at least trying to find another bank to do business with. Until CTC say that the funding is gone then all hope is not lost.

Agreed Poss, I'm sure CTC are working their bums off to ensure they keep the agreement with HSBC on similar terms on the future.

The finance is one of the unique selling points for CTC so they won't lose it without a fight.

Hey everybody, would someone mind answering the following questons I have about CTC

1) I have no flying experience at all, besides a small taster flight, what programme shoul I pick and is there any substantial difference in picking between New zealand and UK & Europe.

2) If I apply now for a scheme how are these phases arranged? I am going on holiday at the begining of September, is there any point applying now or just wait till after I return?

3) Are phases 2&3 always on the same day and where do they take place?

Sorry for not searching if this has been asked, just need some quick answers

1) Entirely depends on what passport you hold and where you have an unrestricted right to work. To go for the UK programme, you must have an unrestricted right to work in the EU. If you hold an NZ passport or have the right to live and work over there, that would be an option.

2) It doesn't really make a difference. Apply now if you think you are ready - CTC will offer you a number of selection dates so you can just go for the one that suits best.

3) Phases 2 and 3 are now both done on the same day. You must pass the aptitude tests and group exercises in the morning to progress through to the interview in the afternoon as I understand it.

I suggest you look at the CTC website as you will need to do your research before applying.

Can anyone tell me what the pass rate of CTC cadets course is? Also what actually happens if someone fails any form of tests, is this a likely occurance?

Thanks

hey tommy. The CTC website has a very good FAQ section, I think I saw some information regarding what happens if you fail.

Tommy, to give you some ball park figures (and I do mean ball park) CTC receive something like 5000+ applications a year for the wings course and roughly 4% make it onto the wings course. I think this answers both of your questions. Sometimes, if a phase is failed but only just, then the candidate can be asked to reapply in 6months or a year

Last edited by CapCon; 22nd Aug 2008 at 18:21. Reason: Didn't read the question properly hence a completely irrelevant answer :)

Hello Tommy,

As has already been mentioned, the FAQs on the CTC website are perfect for naswering your questions; however, to save you some time, I an tell you that the pass rate of people on the CTC Wings course is 98.1% to date and, this far, 100% of those has been placed with an airline.

For the 1.9% who fail the course, for whatever reason, the full amount up to £30,000 of the training used will be paid by CTC as a "hands up" that they mis-selected on that occasion. What this means is that, if the cost of your training before you get sent home totalled £21,000, all of that will be paid for by CTC and you won't owe a thing. If, however, you have undertaken £41,000 worth of training, £30,000 of that will be paid for by CTC and you will owe £11,000. It is worth noting that this does not includeth foundation course - that is wholly your responsibility.

If you have any more questions, check the FAQs. They are VERY informative. if you can't find the answer there, feel free to let me know and I'll try to help.
